BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Six of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ children have released a statement slamming “conspiracy theories” and standing behind their father as he awaits trial for alleged sex trafficking and racketeering. A collaborative Instagram post reads: “The past month has devastated our family. Many have judged both him and us based on accusations, conspiracy theories and false narratives that have spiraled into absurdity on social media.” The statement, with a photo of Combs with his family, continues, saying the 6 children “stand united, supporting you every step of the way”, and says the truth will prevail, and “nothing will break the strength of our family.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4hehth9d

★ Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of bone marrow cancer, according to multiple reports. Reps for Weinstein haven’t confirmed the diagnosis, and in a statement, they said, “Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will offer no further comment.” Chronic myeloid leukemia involves the unregulated growth of myeloid cells in bone marrow, where blood cells form, which then attacks white blood cells. NBC, which first broke the news of Weinstein’s condition, reports he is being treated at Riker’s Island prison in New York, where he is being held pending a retrial on rape charges set to begin in November.

★ Mayim Bialik is reuniting with 2 of her former co-stars as she guest stars in an episode of “Night Court”. In an upcoming episode, she’ll join her “Big Bang Theory” co-star Melissa Rauch, as well as John Larroquette, who she starred alongside in “The John Larroquette Show”. In the episode, Bialik plays a version of herself whom Rauch’s character, ‘Judge Abby Stone’, is thrilled to meet, because she is a fan of the 1990s sitcom “Blossom”. However, the situation takes a turn when Abby discovers Bialik is actually stalking her. It is the latest Big Bang reunion on the show after Kunal Nayyar appeared in an episode earlier this year.

★ “Deadpool & Wolverine’s” record-smashing box office streak hit another milestone over the weekend, by surpassing “Barbie” to rank #12 on the list of all-time top-grossing films at the domestic box office. The MCU film took in another $679,000, finishing Sunday with a domestic total of $636.3 million, compared to the $636.2 million haul of Greta Gerwig’s acclaimed meta-comedy. Barbie still out-ranks the Deadpool threequel globally, with a worldwide haul of $1,446 billion.

SHOOTING THE BULL

THE GOOD IN GOOD GUYS:
It turns out that maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea to let your kid watch all 255 movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last 20 years. OK, I’m exaggerating. It just seems like there have been that many. A study published in The Journal of Psychology found that superhero movies can help promote prosocial behavior. That means actions that benefit other people, or society as a whole. Researchers investigated how these films, which usually include a lot of violence, affect viewers in terms of empathy and moral reasoning. They found that those who watched a superhero movie scene had higher empathy scores than a control group, which did not watch a film clip. And while the study discovered that superhero-watchers were not found to be more generous than others, they were found to be more understanding of how someone could be forced to become violent in order to save someone, another indicator of social empathy.
(And 4 out of 5 also agree with using violence to prevent them from making another Fantastic Four movie!)
(So it could be that guys like Iron Man are actually saving the real world, too?)

WORK QUIRKS:
⇒ It seemed like a perfect idea: getting a little bit of exercise by standing while working at your desk. But it turns out that standing desks don’t help your health much at all. According to a new study of adults in the UK, standing at your computer doesn’t make your lifestyle any less sedentary, and doing it for 2 or more hours per day may even increase your risks of swollen or clotted veins in the legs. University of Sydney researchers found that standing more doesn’t do anything to boost heart health or reduce the risk of stroke. They instead recommend you follow the age-old advice that you’ve heard a thousand times: Move your body throughout the day by going for a walk, choosing the stairs, taking quick breaks from your workstation, and getting exercise before or after work. (OK, fine! I’ll sit while I eat my donuts, too!)
⇒ If you’ve ever tried to type with long fingernails, you know it can be cumbersome and, well – inefficient. That’s why Sara Young Wang created the Tippy Type, a $45 keyboard cover designed to be used by those with nails to die for – either natural or acrylic. The Tippy Type is a silicone keyboard cover with raised keys to allow for easier typing. And it has become a viral sensation among “clawed” corporate employees. And while the Tippy Type currently only accommodates medium-long nails, Wang is looking to expand, after receiving a deluge of requests for new colors, international keyboards, covers made to fit different models — and even a version made specifically for gamers. (The best part? Everyone else in the office doesn’t have to listen to “clickety-clack-clack” all day long!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/f7vpmzx8

DRIVERS TEST:
Is it perhaps time that all drivers be required to take a refresher course on the finer points of piloting a vehicle? Because according to a survey, many of us have forgotten the rules of the road. In a survey, a quarter of us said they think they’d fail the written exam for a driver’s license if they were forced to take it again. The survey of 2,000 drivers in the US also found that just 40% are certain that they remember and follow all of the safety precautions they were taught when they began driving. And the average driver says they understand about 78% of the dashboard indicators and warning lights (men: 82% vs. 76% of women). And when asked about their personal vehicle, 43% admitted that there are currently one or more dashboard warning lights lit up right now, and we wait, on average, about 5 days to address them.
(And by address them”, 50% mean they “tell their husband about it”!)
(I agree that drivers should have to take a refresher course. And by ‘drivers’, I mean ‘OTHER drivers’!)

THE 5 BEST CELEB COUPLES:
According to consultations with fans on credible review sites, such as Elle, Parade, Cosmo, and Harper’s Bazaar…
1. Jay-Z and Beyoncé: They have been together more than 20 years, and are one of music’s most iconic couples. In spite of some tough times, they have survived, and are proud parents of 3 kids: Blue Ivy and twins Sir and Rumi.
2. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen: From their swoon-worthy red carpet appearances to their hilarious social media banter, they have managed to keep it real while building a beautiful family of 6.
3. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith(!): While they have had their share of controversy, not the least of which was Jada’s revelation last year that they are separated, they’re still most definitely life partners.
4. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle: They seemed to have a fairytale life in the making after they got married, but it’s been a rough road since their vows. However, it seems their relationship is thriving as they enjoy their family of 4 in America.
5.  Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds: The real-life definition of “couple goals.” After meeting in 2010 on the set of “Green Lantern”, they now have 4 kids and are one of the most beloved celebrity couples in Hollywood, thanks to their common senses of humor and the love they publicly share for each other.
(What couple is at the top of YOUR list? For us, it’s David and Victoria. And Goldie and Kurt. And J-Lo and J-Lo!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Dolphins smile in much the same way that humans do, according to new research. A team at Italy’s University of Pisa “uncovered the presence of a distinct facial display, the open mouth, in bottlenose dolphins” that showed their ability to mirror others’ facial expressions while at play. The researchers found that “The relaxed open mouth, seen in…monkeys’ play faces, and even human laughter, is a universal sign of playfulness, helping animals—and us—signal fun and avoid conflict.” There are many photos and videos of dolphins sporting a smile-like expression. (For all intents and porpoises, at least…)

BS CHRONOMETER 10.23.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Canning Day”, honoring the birth of French chef/chemist Nicolas Appert, who came up with the concept of sealing perishable food in jars. (Eat what you can — and can what you can’t!)
• “TV Talk Show Host Day”, to celebrate those ‘gifted with the personality and intellect to bring out the best in their guests’. It’s an annual observance on the birth anniversary of iconic talk show host Johnny Carson in 1925. Who’s today’s best?
• “Boston Cream Pie Day”. Although it is called a pie, Boston cream pie is actually a cake. It consists of 2 round layers of sponge cake with a thick vanilla custard filling. It is usually frosted with a chocolate glaze, but it can also be topped with confectionary sugar. The dessert is served in wedges, just like a pie.
• “Croc Day”. Crocs are everywhere, from college campuses to fashion runways, on celebrity feet and in the garden. And why not? They’re versatile, vibrant, and most of all, comfortable. (And NEVER the butt of any jokes…)
• “Horror Movie Day”, falling on the birthday of one of the greatest ‘scary movie’ directors: Sam Raimi. (You know what to do!)
• “Medical Assistants Recognition Day”, saluting Certified Medical Assistants who specialize in both clinical and administrative skills. (Most important duty: “Sir, you have the gown on backwards.”)
• “Lung Health Day”, observed annually on the 4th Wednesday of October, encouraging us to breathe easier by observing healthy respiratory practices.
• “Slap Your Irritating Co-Worker Day”. We’re kidding! (Honest! The HR department told us we are!) But just for fun, here are the rules you must follow…
* You can only slap one person per hour – no more.
* You can slap the same person again if they irritate you again later in the same day.
* You are allowed to hold someone down as other co-workers take their turns slapping the irritant.
* No weapons are allowed…other than going upside someone’s head with a stapler or a hole-puncher.
* If questioned by a supervisor [or police, if the supervisor is the irritant], you are allowed to LIE, LIE, LIE!
(We don’t recommend that you actually slap anyone, but sometimes it sure is nice to think about it…)
