BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ There’s no stopping Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which is now well on its way to becoming 2024’s first $1 billion box office hit, after earning a projected $100 million in its second weekend, the best ever for an animated film. That tops the previous record of $92 million set last year by “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” and gives the sequel a 2-weekend domestic total of $355 million. That’s the same amount that “Barbie” had after 2 weekends, and puts it on pace to pass $600 million in North America.

★ Hours after Paramount revealed the return date for the final episodes of “Yellowstone”, Kevin Costner ended speculation about his possible return by announcing that he is not coming back. In his video post in Instagram, Costner said: “After this long year and a half of working on Horizon…and thinking about Yellowstone…I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future…I loved it. And I know you loved it…I’ll see you at the movies.” Earlier, Paramount revealed that the second half of the 5th and final season of the Taylor Sheridan series will premiere November 10. ★ Clue: The United States Postal Service is honoring this iconic game show host with his own stamp. If you said “Who is Alex Trebek?,” you’d be correct. And good guess! Ken Jennings announced during Friday’s episode of Jeopardy that the USPS is issuing a Forever Stamp in honor of Trebek. In keeping with the theme of the show, Trebek’s stamp resembles a clue as it would be seen on the show. In white lettering against a blue background, the stamp reads “This naturalized U.S. citizen hosted the quiz show Jeopardy! for 37 seasons.”

★ According to Ice Cube, there’s a 4th “Friday” movie on its way. In a video shared by SiriusXM, Cube tells Flavor Flav: “We’re working on it, we’re working on it”. He acknowledged that the deaths of stars John Witherspoon, Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr. and A.J. Johnson as they tried getting another movie going has been tough. And the rapper/actor added that Warner Bros. studio kept delaying things, and “not doing the movie the way it needs to be done”, but, as he put it, now, “We finally got some traction”. The most recent film in the series, “Friday After Next,” was released in 2002.

★ The Edmonton Oilers fan who became famous for lifting her team jersey during the NHL playoffs, is cashing in on her viral moment. The woman, known only as Kait, has signed with Playboy, the outlet has announced. Playboy’s post reads: “Meet Kait, the Oilers good luck charm. The @edmontonoilers might not have the Stanley Cup just yet, but with @k89.fly cheering them on, they’re unstoppable. Catch Kait over at The Playboy Club.” She earned internet fame after flashing her breasts in the stands during the Oilers’ Game 5 win over the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final on May 31.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Camila Cabello – Friday, she dropped her latest song ‘Chanel No. 5’, with the theme of a confident woman going after what she wants. It’s the newest single off her upcoming album “C, XOXO” out this Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/bddrauxf
• Justin Timberlake – hit the stage at Chicago’s United Center for his first performance since being charged with DWI. He addressed the elephant in the room, saying: “We’ve been together through ups and downs and lefts and rights, and it’s been a tough week…I know sometimes I’m hard to love, but you keep on loving me and I love you right back, thank you so much.”” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/43psnfh5
• The Kinks – Dave Davies has shared that he was shocked to find out that his 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame trophy was for sale on eBay for $12,500. The listing said it was purchased “from a storage unit when Dave Davies was…past 1 year of forgetting to pay the…storage fees.” But it may have ended well: He later posted “maybe we can work something out more reasonable”, and the auction was ended early.
• Alanis Morrissette – Sept. 6, she’ll drop “Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie (Thank U Edition)” to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary. It will be released as a 2-LP set with reimagined artwork. A digital deluxe edition of the album is out now, with 4 bonus tracks — 2 B-sides, an outtake, and a demo — along with an “Uninvited” remix by electronic duo, Freemasons.
• Scorpions – are getting the biopic treatment. “Wind of Change” takes its name from the 1991 power ballad that became the group’s biggest hit. Singer Klaus Meine was inspired to write the song after the German rockers performed to 300,000 people at the 1989 Moscow Music Peace Festival as the Cold War neared its end. The film is expected to be released next year, the band’s 60th anniversary.
• Post Malone – has scored his first #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart. ‘I had Some Help’, his collab with Morgan Wallen, reached the top in just its 7th week on the list. That’s the fastest trip to #1 on Country Airplay since Garth Brooks’ ‘More Than a Memory’ in 2007.
• Brantley Gilbert and Ashley Cooke — have dropped their new duet ‘Over When We’re Sober’. Gilbert co-wrote the tune with Jelly Roll and songwriters Brock Berryhill and Justin Wilson. Gilbert said of Cooke’s contribution to the post-breakup theme: “I love [Ashley’s] voice, and I knew she would take it to the next level.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mpvnv7px
• Willie Nelson – The 91-year-old was forced to miss the first show of his “Outlaw Music Festival Tour” in Alpharetta GA, on Friday, due to illness. A statement on social media says that he “is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the 4 four days.” He’s expected to join the tour this week. SHOOTING THE BULL

SUPER SUPERMARKET:
Have you ever encountered issues at a supermarket checkout, and felt the “death-stares” of those waiting in line behind you — even though you hadn’t done anything wrong?  Well, that wouldn’t happen here. A Japanese grocery store recently implemented an “extra-slow checkout” where customers are never rushed. Those visiting the extra-slow checkout register can spend upwards of 20 minutes, counting their change, trading in products they’ve decided not to buy, chatting with the cashier, etc. — without feeling pressured in any way. Why? It was originally designed for the convenience of the elderly, disabled, and pregnant women, but it seems to have become very popular with all types of shoppers who just don’t want to feel rushed. The experimental register has become so popular that the supermarket credits its implementation for a 10% increase in sales.
(Plus, while you’re waiting in line, you have time to read the ENTIRE Women’s Day magazine!)
(I’m pretty sure my local store invented this waaay before it was invented!)

ENGINE-UITY:
Bugatti has unveiled its new model, the “Tourbillon”, a massively powerful hybrid with an equally impressive price tag. And while you might have expected Bugatti’s new model to be all-electric, considering not only is the industry headed in that direction, but the company was recently merged with Rimac, the Croatian company that makes the all-electric Rimac Nevera supercar. But the Bugatti Tourbillon will have a huge, 16-cylinder gas engine, which was designed in cooperation with the British race car engineering firm Cosworth. Those 16 cylinders will be assisted by 3 powerful electric motors – each capable of producing 800 horsepower (plus) on their own. That means the Tourbillon will be able to put out a total of at least 1,800 horsepower. List price: $4 million.
(I guess it’s aimed at those poor Schmoes who can’t afford a car with 5 motors!)
(So, if a car had 4 engines, exactly how many catalytic converters would it have? Asking for a friend…)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ A man who began picking up litter to help his mental health says that now his whole family spends quality time together on the clean-ups – and together with others, they have picked up 13 tons of trash. After struggling with severe depression, 32-year-old Mike Scotland found himself by the bank of the River Don in his hometown of Aberdeen, England, surrounded by litter and ready to take his own life. He managed to change his mind, but whenever Mike would pass the river, the mounds of rubbish would remind him of that dark day – so he decided to start cleaning it up. Soon, another person offered to help, and Mike decided to start a litter-picking group. Over the next few months, Community Clean Up collected almost 30,000 pounds of litter (13,500kg), and pulled a whopping 5,500 pounds of metal (2,500kg) from the river bottom. Mike is now a father of 3 and says the whole family now picks up litter regularly, including his 5-year-old son, Lucio, who picked up his first piece of trash as a toddler. He says that it is “really uplifting to see that there’s a lot of people out there that want to do good.”
➢ A former news reporter organized a fundraiser so that a 90-year-old Air Force vet, who had to work to pay his bills, could retire. Karen Swensen came across Dillon McCormick gathering carts in a New Orleans grocery store in humid 90°F weather, and, feeling bad for the man, decided to do something about it. She shot video of McCormick doing his job, and used it in a GoFundMe, introducing it by saying: “He is a veteran of the United States Military. It’s Memorial Day. It’s hot. Mr. McCormick was born in 1933, making him a part of the Silent Generation. Please, America, let us be his voice.” She hoped to raise $35,000. In just 24 hours, two hundred grand rolled in, and she eventually had to cut the donation button off after it passed $233,000. In an update, the reporter wrote: “No longer will the 90-year-old veteran have to push shopping carts in triple-digit heat to put food on his table.”

WHO SHOULD REPLACE KATY PERRY ON “AMERICAN IDOL”?
Perry officially exited the show after last month’s Season 22 finale. Here are the top pop star candidates to replace her, according to entertainment site The Wrap . . .
✪ Meghan Trainor: The ‘All About That Bass’ singer has been practically begging for the opportunity to work on her “favorite show” and have “her dream job”. She guest-judged on “Australian Idol” in 2023.
✪ Fantasia: She’s back in the public eye following her Oscar-nominated performance in the 2023 musical adaptation of “The Color Purple. The “Idol” Season 3 winner came back to the show last season to speak to the finalists.
✪ Carrie Underwood: The Season 4 winner is another “Idol” success story who could take a seat at the judge’s table.
✪ Maren Morris: The Grammy Award winner was rejected from “American Idol” after auditioning as a teen, but has since said she sees it as “poetic justice” when people audition using her songs on the show.
✪ Pink: She’d probably be great, but is admittedly hesitant about joining the judging table. She said to ET: “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings. I like my day job.”
✪ Miley Cyrus: The Grammy winner has said that tour life is not for her. So why not the judging panel? Served as a guest judge in 2010.
✪ Jennifer Hudson: Though not an “Idol” winner, the “Dreamgirls” star is one of the biggest names to come out of the show. She placed 7th in 2004, but 20 years later, she’s an EGOT winner, and hosts her own talk show.
✪ Jennifer Lopez: She was a judge on Seasons 10, 11, and 13-15. Although she said recently that she “feels like she did it” already, it seems her schedule has opened up a bit lately…
✪ Jordin Sparks: The youngest winner in “Idol” history, at age 17, has already put her “name in the hat” to fill Perry’s seat. The ‘No Air’ singer does not have any upcoming projects announced.
✪ Bishop Briggs: The ‘River’ artist sang with season 22 winner Abi Carter on the grand finale. The frequent “Idol” guest also competed in Season 9 of “The Masked Singer”.
✪ Bebe Rexha: The ‘Meant to Be’ singer came back to “Idol” after auditioning (and being rejected) years prior. She served as mentor on Seasons 16 and 20.
✪ Alicia Keys: After producing a Tony Award-nominated musical inspired by her life story, she might be ready to get back in the judging seat. She was a coach on “The Voice” for Seasons 11, 12 and 14.
(Who would you like to add to the list of candidates?)

DID YOU KNOW?
The type of wine you enjoy may reveal a lot about your personality. A 2022 survey found stark differences between people who drink red wine and those who like white. Red wine drinkers were found more likely to be introverts who love to travel and enjoy early mornings. White wine connoisseurs? They’re more likely to consider themselves extroverts and night owls. The poll also found that white wine drinkers tend to be perfectionists, jazz music listeners, prefer cats over dogs, and are more likely to identify as curious and sarcastic individuals. Red wine fans are more likely to be dog lovers — and fans of punk music. They consider themselves adventurous, humble, and organized. (Red wine lovers were also found to be more likely to have a headache!)

BS CHRONOMETER 06.24.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Celebration of the Senses”, when we’re encouraged to treat ourselves to stimulation of each of our 5 senses. What would be the best sensation for each?
• “Pralines Day”, saluting the sweet & creamy taste treat made from sugared pecans or almonds. Pralines were invented in France by Marshal du Plessis-Praslin (hence the name).
• “International Fairy Day”, a holiday for believers, collectors, and the young at heart, to celebrate all that is ‘Fae’, and to reconnect with their imagination and child-like wonder.
• “St-Jean Baptiste Day”, the “Fête Nationale” holiday in the province of Québec and in French-Canadian communities across the country. Besides Québec, St John the Baptist is also the patron saint of auto routes, candlemakers, health spas, road workers, and wool workers.
• “Swim a Lap Day”, the pool equivalent of ‘Walk a Block’, an easily achievable step to getting your fitness initiative underway. (Or in my case, my drowning initiative!)
• “World UFO Day”, marking the anniversary of one of the first UFO sightings in the US, when Kenneth Arnold reported seeing 9 high-speed crescent-shaped objects near Mt. Rainier, WA in 1947. July 2 is the anniversary of the famous Roswell UFO incident, which also happened in 1947.
• “Museum Comes to Life Day”. Celebrate by spending time at any type of museum. On this day, you just might see an Ancient Egyptian mummy rise from its tomb, or feel the ground shake beneath a stampede of elephants. More likely, you’ll be treated to the past coming alive figuratively, with re-enactors in period dress, and demonstrations of trades and crafts from yesteryear.
• “Please Take My Children to Work Day”. Tired and overworked, stay-at-home moms rarely get a day off. Worse yet, many others perceive them as not working at all. Today, if you’re a stay-at-home mom, ask friends or family members to take care of your children.
