BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The new “Gladiator II” trailer has dropped online, and with it comes a major reveal: ‘Lucius’, played by Paul Mescal is, in fact, the son of ‘Maximus’, Russell Crowe’s character in the first film, and not ‘Lucius Verus I’, as he was made to believe his whole life. The revelation has major implications for both films, giving heightened meaning to all of the Maximus lore shown in promos for the sequel so far. In the new trailer, his mother, ‘Lucilla’ (Connie Nielsen), reveals the news as he readies for a battle in the Colosseum, saying: “Take your father’s strength. His name was Maximus. And I see him in you.” LINK: https://youtu.be/Ts0N8swyWFI

★ Remember Octomom? Well, she has a new title — grandmother. Nadya Suleman, who is known for giving birth to the first surviving set of octuplets 15 years ago, has made the announcement that one of her sons welcomed a child. The 49-year-old wrote on Instagram: “Thank you my son and my lovely daughter in law for giving us this beautiful gift!…Baby girl you are so very loved and we can’t wait to watch you grow!! She also posted a photo of the baby’s little foot poking out of a pink blanket. The new grandmother did not share any additional details such as the baby’s name, or which one of her sons welcomed the addition, but did post the date “August 30”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3rupeanf

★ Olivia Munn and John Mulaney’s family has grown again. The couple has welcomed their second child, a daughter, via gestational surrogate. On Instagram, Munn wrote: “Méi June Mulaney came into the world September 14, 2024, the year of the dragon.” She included a photo of herself sitting on Mulaney’s lap as she held their daughter in a hospital room. Her post also pointed out that she had “profound emotions about not being able to carry” her daughter due to breast cancer treatment, and called her surrogate “a real-life angel.” The new addition joins their son Malcolm, who almost 3. ★ “Gilmore Girls” actor Scott Cohen and his wife thought they were “dead” when they were caught in a high-speed car chase. The actor and his partner Anastasia Traina were on their way home in Brooklyn, New York, in June when they were struck in a head-on collision by the suspect in the police chase. Cohen told Page Six about the incident, saying his wife’s arm “is all messed up” and he suffered a broken sternum, which he described as “never-healing”. Police had pulled over a driver for a routine traffic stop, but the suspect suddenly took off with cops pursuing him. He collided with Scott’s car, causing the suspect’s vehicle to burst into flames before he ran off and exchanged gunfire with the police. It’s unclear if he was ever caught.

★ Jennifer Aniston has such good memories of filming “Friends”, she doubts she’ll ever make another sitcom. The hit show, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of its premiere over the weekend, made global stars of its 6 leads – Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry. Aniston was speaking on the SmartLess podcast when she was asked if she’d make another comedy show. Her response: “If I knew it would be the same experience as I had with those guys, yes, but I doubt that will ever happen.” She added that making Friends been the favorite job of her career.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Doja Cat – has shut down rumors that she’s engaged to boyfriend Joseph Quinn. She flashed a large ring, perfectly placed on THAT finger, during her performance at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Festival on Saturday, sparking talk that she might have said “Yes”, just a month after going public with their relationship. But she later tweeted: “”No, I’m not engaged its a David Yurman ring with no rocks in it.”
• GloRilla – will put an exclamation mark on her banner year with the release of her debut album next month. Friday, she released the single ‘Hollon’, and wrote: “GLORIOUS da album dropping 10/11 So grateful to be sharing this with y’all…AYEEEEE.” Her previous 2024 hits include ‘Yeah Glo!’, ‘TGIF’, and ‘Wanna Be’, featuring tour-mate Megan Thee Stallion.
• Jane’s Addiction — Perry Farrell’s wife Etty Lau Farrell shared an update on her husband following his onstage altercation with Dave Navarro. She wrote that Perry is taking time to “reflect and heal” and is seeing an otolaryngologist and neurologist. An otolaryngologist treats conditions affecting the ears, nose and throat, while a neurologist treats conditions in the brain and nervous system. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/e8ne982f
• Oasis – is reportedly being offered “huge money” to have musical reunion brought to screen via documentary. The Sun reports that Apple TV+ is keen to film the previously warring brothers, but it faces stiff competition from both Amazon Prime and Netflix.
• Journey – singer Arnel Pineda says he’ll “step out for good” if people on social media vote for him to leave the band. He was reacting to a video of the group’s performance at the 2024 Rock In Rio festival, which was posted on the Behind The Songs Facebook page, with a caption pointing out his “severe vocal failure”. In his response, Pineda said: “no one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2kxv834d
• Kip Moore – Friday, he dropped the new song ‘Live Here to Work’. He’s also gearing up to kick off his “Nomad World Tour”. The tour name probably has to do with the fact that this is his first independent release since parting ways with his longtime label MCA Nashville, in March. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/96864yrj
• Luke Combs – has scored his 18th #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. ‘Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma’, from the “Twisters” soundtrack, jumped from #4 to the top on the list dated Sept. 28.
• Miranda Lambert – It has been 5 years of wedded bliss for her and Brendan McLoughlin – except when one of them is driving. In an interview, she said of driving with her husband, an ex-NYPD officer: “We just … can’t…He drives like a cop in New York City.” And when she takes the wheel, “He’s like, judging my parking, and it’s so stressful.”
SHOOTING THE BULL
SMELL PHONE:
Could your cell phone some day be able to transmit smells, similar to how today’s models can wirelessly provide you with audio and video? Scientists are working on it, if you can believe it. Well, the phone wouldn’t actually transmit scent particles. The process of digital scent technology would use a small number of cartridges, each containing a specific scent. Just like how pixels on your phone’s screen mix 3 colors to create images, these scent cartridges could mix to create different smells. The plan is that when you receive a digital scent code, your phone could mix tiny amounts of the different scents from the cartridges to create the desired smell. This mix would then be released through a small vent on the phone, allowing you to smell it. No word at this point how far along researchers have come in their quest to allow your friends to send you the smell of the delicious chocolate chip cookies they are baking – or something considerably less appetizing!
(This brings to mind the immortal words of Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, who said: “Just because we can, doesn’t mean we SHOULD”!)
(This is such a bad idea that when they finally make it happen, your provider is gonna charge you extra to NOT have it!)

VEGGIE TALES:
❑ We definitely have a wide range of vegetables to choose from, but new research shows that if you’re looking for maximum health benefits, you should include one in particular: watercress. This leafy green has been named the healthiest vegetable by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, with a nutrient density score of 100 out of 100. And it beat the runner-up, Chinese cabbage, by more than 8 points. The next 3, in order are: Swiss chard, beetroot, and spinach. (Great. Now, can anyone tell me what any of those things look like like?)
❑ Washing your produce before eating it is very important, because, aside from dirt, it may contain things like bacteria, fungi, viruses and pesticides, not to mention plastic contamination. Here is how to do it, say the experts: First, wash your hands. Then wash produce under cold, running water. Rub the fruits and veggies with your hands to remove dirt, pesticides and some surface germs. Wash until the surface no longer looks dirty. If you’re going to soak it, use a clean bowl instead of the sink — which may contain germs. Never use detergent or bleach, as it may be absorbed by the produce. Vinegar and baking soda can both be used to reduce bacteria and pesticides. Produce with a hard rind (such as squashes) or a firm skin (like potatoes and root vegetables) may be scrubbed with a vegetable brush until clean looking. (I suppose using the dishwasher is out of the question?)

THRILL-RIDE:
The Ohio amusement park Cedar Point has announced plans for a thrilling new roller coaster with a track that completely separates mid-air. “Siren’s Curse” will be the “tallest, fastest and longest ‘tilt’ roller coaster in North America” when it opens next summer in Sandusky, just west of Cleveland. The coaster, supposedly inspired by the “legend and lore of mysterious creatures living beneath the surface of Lake Erie” includes a climb up a 160-foot (49m) Lake Erie shipping crane tower (with “sinister” sounds), followed by the moment when the train stops on a “broken off” section of the track. While hovering in mid-air, riders will be tilted 90 degrees, until they’re looking straight down. Next comes a “plunge into the abyss,” which involves zooming through 3,000 feet (914m) of track at up to 58 mph (93kph). The ride also features 13 weightless airtime moments, two 360-degree, zero-gravity barrel rolls and a “high-speed ‘triple-down’ element with twisted and overbanked track.” Not sure what that is, but I’m sure it’s not the type of thing you want to experience right after eating a funnel cake. LINK: https://youtu.be/mIdb_eygDEM
(It sounds like it’ll have more surprise-twists than the US election!)
(That definitely firms up my road-trip plan for next summer. I’m going in the exact opposite direction of that freak show!)

DID YOU KNOW?
What is the first thing you would grab in an emergency? According to a new survey, Gen Z is most likely to save their laptops and shoes. Members of Gen X said they would save photo albums, and Baby Boomers would grab their jewelry – even before water and food. The top 5 items Americans would grab in a disaster, in order, were found to be: cell phone with charger, important documents, medications, food, and water. (We’re pretty sure that Gen Z doesn’t have a photo album to grab – and probably not much jewelry, either!)

It is believed that the word “kiss” comes from the Old English word “cyssan,” which itself came from the Germanic word “kussijanan” or “kuss.” This word probably came from the sound that kissing makes. (FUN FACT: Kissing only requires the use of 2 muscles, while French kissing takes 34!)
