★ Celine Dion will be teaming up with Lady Gaga to perform Édith Piaf’s classic ‘La Vie en Rose’ at the Olympics’ opening ceremony in Paris today (1:30pm EDT), TMZ reports. Gaga is no stranger to the French classic, having sung it in her 2018 movie “A Star Is Born.” Dion is being paid a staggering $2 million to perform the one song. It’ll mark her first performance since she revealed her Stiff-Person Syndrome diagnosis in 2022. The outlet also says Dion is in the “final stages” of signing a deal for a new Vegas residency at Resorts World, to start in late 2024 or early 2025.

★ Disney’s “Inside Out 2” has surpassed “Frozen II” to become the highest-grossing animated film in history. After 6 weeks of release, Inside Out 2 has generated a staggering worldwide total of $1.46 billion. Frozen II collected $1.45 billion during its theatrical run in 2019. (Disney’s 2019 “Lion King” remake, which earned a $1.65 billion, is technically computer-generated, but the studio has categorized the movie as live-action.) Globally, Inside Out 2 also has overtaken “Barbie” ($1.446 billion) to become the 13th-biggest movie of all time.

★ Brendan Fraser has been cast as Dwight D. Eisenhower in a new historical drama called “Pressure”. The movie is about the historic storming of Normandy during World War II, often referred to as D-Day. It will focus on Eisenhower as the Supreme Allied Commander and James Stagg, played by Andrew Scott, as Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer, planning plan the attack. This project follows a string of successes for Fraser, including his Oscar-winning performance in “The Whale” and his SAG Award-nominated performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon”.

★ Tom Kenny, who voices ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, has revealed that the animated character is autistic. Kenny recently spoke at the 2024 Motor City Comic Con, and told fans: “SpongeBob’s kind of on the spectrum, too, as a character.” He elaborated, saying that he was recently at a conference in Texas, when a person “who was obviously on the spectrum” asked him: ‘Is SpongeBob himself autistic?’ Allen said he responded by saying: “Yes…course he is…You know what? That’s his superpower, the same way that’s your superpower.” Kenny has voiced the beloved character since the show debuted in 1999.

★ Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have taken their playful banter to the big screen. In the new Marvel film “Deadpool & Wolverine”, out today, Reynolds’ character ‘Deadpool’ reportedly jokes about his pal Jackman’s real-life divorce. News.com says that in one scene, Deadpool looks at Jackman’s character ‘Wolverine’, and quips: “He’s usually shirtless, but he’s let himself go since the divorce.” While Wolverine’s character has never been through a divorce in the films, the “X-Men” actor has. Last September, Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness announced their separation after 27 years of marriage.

So, yes – ‘Barbie pink’ was the hot color of 2023. But this year? The defining color of summer 2024 is definitely slime green — also known as ‘Brat green’. To give you a visual, it is similar to the to shade of the text message bubble sent from your iPhone. It has become synonymous with pop star Charli XCX’s hit album, but the cultural influence of “Brat” green keeps on growing. Last week, the official X account of the New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority alerted commuters of train repairs using a “Brat” green graphic. And 65-year-old “Golden Globe-winner Kyle McLachlan posted an “unofficial music video” of himself lip syncing to a song from the album – while wearing a fluorescent green shirt. And that was just the beginning. Brat green even made its way into the US Presidential election campaign. After Joe Biden announced he was out, and endorsed Kamala Harris, Charli XCX offered her own thumbs-up, tweeting: “kamala IS brat.” Of course, memes were quickly created, and t-shirts were created, some with Harris’ name printed in the style of the “Brat” album cover. ➢ One of Oscar Mayer’s famed hot dog-shaped Wienermobiles ended up flipped onto its side after crashing on a suburban Chicago highway. Cops say the Wienermobile hit a car Monday morning along Interstate 294 and its driver lost control, causing it to roll onto its side. No injuries were reported after the crash, which prompted the closure of the right lane of the northbound lane for more than an hour. Video from the crash scene shows that the yellow and orange Wienermobile being hauled away on a flatbed truck with damage visible to the vehicle’s wiener-like shape. Oscar Mayer has several Wienermobiles, which it uses at promotional events. (Yes, I understand it has 12 of them – exactly 4 more than Wonder Bread has “Bun Mobiles”!) ➢ A foul-mouthed parrot has found a home, after hundreds applied to adopt it. Pepper, the bird with an attitude, starting attracting the attention of hopeful adopters from across the US when the SPCA in Niagara Falls NY began sharing updates about him. The agency’s initial post read that bringing the “potty-mouthed” parrot home “might seem like a fun idea until Pepper offends grandma’s Tuesday night knitting group. On the bright side, if you want to keep unannounced company from dropping in, adopt Pepper.” Another post asked that “Somebody get this guy a bar of soap or a humor-loving home!” In 5 days, there were more than 400 applicants to adopt Pepper, and he has now been taken in by a household “with an African Grey named Shelby, who makes Pepper look like ‘a saint’,” officials wrote. All athletes participating in surfing events are staying in the French island of Tahiti during the games – almost 10,000 miles from the rest of the action. German surfer Tim Elter shared an inside look at his digs at the Polynesian island. In a TikTok, he showed off his room aboard the cruise ship “Aranui 5”, which is housing all surfers for the next 2 weeks. In addition to having a full-sized — and not cardboard — bed, his room is equipped with a balcony overlooking the water and beautiful scenery that Tahiti offers.
