BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Princess Anne’s husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence has given an update on her recovery after her accident earlier this week. The 73-year-old royal, who is a highly skilled horsewoman, sustained injuries and a concussion while walking on her estate in an accident thought to have been caused by a kick from a horse. Speaking to reporters after visiting her in hospital, Sir Tim said: “Slow, but sure…She is recovering well, thank you.” He also expressed gratitude to the medical team and hospital staff for their care, and to the emergency services and those who sent messages of support following the accident.

★ Andy Serkis has given ‘Batman’ fans a timeline for when to expect Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader back on the big screen. The hotly anticipated sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2022 “The Batman” should arrive in theaters by mid-2026, or shortly after, according to Serkis, who plays Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and confidant in the new iteration of the DC saga. Speaking at an event at ACE Superhero Comic Con 2024, Serkis joked: “Well, there is a huge arc which you’ve got – nah, I’m not giving away anything” — before revealing production is likely to start in early 2025.

★ While ‘Lord Debling’ found himself drawn to ‘Penelope’ during Bridgerton season 3, actor Sam Phillips had his eye on a different Featherington sister. “The Crown” alum and Bessie Carter, who plays Penelope’s older sister ‘Prudence’, have confirmed their romance. The pair stepped out for a morning stroll in Sussex UK, during which Carter planted a few kisses on Phillips’ shoulder. Unlike their high-society characters on the Netflix show, the couple opted for a casual look for their day out. She wore a black sweatshirt, gray leggings and sneakers, while he sported an orange T-shirt, black sweatpants and sneakers.

★ Brooke Mueller, ex-wife of Charlie Sheen, has become embroiled in the investigation surrounding Matthew Perry’s death. In Touch reports that a source close to the situation revealed: “She’s hired lawyers and has had multiple meetings with law enforcement since they arrived at her sober living house with a search warrant.” Although Mueller was not arrested, police confiscated her iPhone and laptop during the search. The insider emphasized Mueller is adamant she had “nothing to do with” Perry’s death. The 2 reportedly met while in rehab.

The doc will include footage and photography from the Benchley and Spielberg archives, as well as all-new interviews. SHOOTING THE BULL

ZOOMING OUT:
So, are you a “Zoom meeting camera off person” or a “Camera on person”? If you leave your camera on, as nature intended, chances are you plan to stick around at your current position for a while. New research published in the Harvard Business Review found that going ‘camera-on’ correlated with sticking around at your job. In an analysis of looked at 40 million video meetings, they determined that people who left their companies within a year enabled their cameras during meetings 18.4% of the time, compared to 32.5% of the time for employees who stayed at their company longer. The researchers noted that employers that have significant numbers of workers who elect not to activate their cameras during meetings should probably look into staff engagement issues.
(I WAS a “camera-on” Zoom person – until I just found out this moment that there’s an option to turn it off!)
(…and as I found out at my last job, if you also turn off the mic, and the sound, chances are you’ll be leaving the company even sooner!)

HOPE YOU CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH:
Stats show that trust in politicians has never been lower. And if you pay attention, there’s little wonder why. People simply don’t feel they can believe what many politicians are saying. And in Wales, they’re trying to do something about it. A proposal before parliament there is seeking to introduce a law that, if passed, would make Wales the first country in the world to criminalize politicians who lie. Under the proposal, it would be a criminal offense for a member of the Senedd parliament, or a candidate for election, to wilfully make or publish a statement that is known to be false or deceptive. Proceedings would have to be brought within 6 months from the date on which the statement was made. The proposed punishment isn’t as bad as some would like, however: Being prosecuted for lying would disqualify a person from being a Senedd member.
(One thing for sure: It’ll definitely shorten up political debates!)
(Why do I get the feeling there are going to be a lot more news reports containing the words “had no comment” in them?)

STAY ‘FLEX’ FOR SUCCESS:
Good news: A Harvard Business School expert has revealed the trait that he believes leads to being an extremely successful person – and it’s a so-called muscle that anyone can build. Professor Joseph Fuller says that if you want to equip yourself to go above and beyond in lifelong career achievement, you need to develop the ability to adapt and be flexible. According to him, those who go the farthest in their career aren’t “wedded to some predetermined…path that they set when they were a student or starting their first job.” Instead, these people are “open to unexpected opportunities and embrace change instead of fearing it.” And being totally open and adaptable when it comes to one’s career isn’t as common as you might think. Fuller said it’s actually a “skill that can be rare to find”, because “People are afraid to try new things and fail. But you can’t grow without moving beyond your comfort zone.”
(Oh. Is that it? Thank God! I was worried he was going to tell me I have to get up and be in the gym by 6 o’clock in the morning, or something awful like that!)
(Why couldn’t the key to success have been something I’m GOOD at – like eating the entire appetizer menu, or “speed-binging” a whole TV series in one weekend?)

THINGS THE PANDEMIC RUINED:
Remember the height of the pandemic? Yeah, that was a weird time. And it seems that we’re still dealing with some of the repercussions A Reddit user recently asked “What things did the 2020 pandemic ruin?” Here are some of the best answers . . .
⇒ “24-hour stores and supply chains. Even today, more than 4 years later, there are still things out of stock and hard to find.”
⇒ “Dining out. The bar is so much lower for good food and service now.”
⇒ “All the cheap buffets in Vegas are gone.” (For a while there, it looked like buffets would be gone – entirely!)
⇒ “People. People are so outwardly mean, antagonistic, and proudly uninformed now. We’ve lost all sense of a social contract.” (They’re NOT wrong!)
⇒ “Genuine human interaction. Feels weird and technological now.”
⇒ “My sense of purpose or meaning. I haven’t felt this nihilistic since I was a ‘brooding teenage girl.’”
⇒ “Dating is really weird now compared to before COVID. I can’t put my finger on what is different, though. I just know the apps are different now.”
⇒ “COVID ruined the tipping culture. Now, I’m expected to tip everyone, everywhere. I’m so sick of having a tablet shoved in my face with tip choices at fast-food places.”
⇒ “The medical industry. So many got burnt out and left, and the shortages are still a huge issue, so healthcare is suffering.”
⇒ “The small-town vibe and affordability of my area. Work-from-home people and retirees moved here.”
⇒ “Several friendships.”
(What would you add to the list? Has the pandemic made anything better?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study has found that that mental well-being is the single most important contributor to healthy aging and longevity. But there’s another large contributor: Eating cheese. Chinese researchers conducted research involving 2.3 million people, found that while cheese is not directly responsible for longevity, a higher intake of cheese and fruit is a standout contributor to high well-being scores. And higher well-being is directly co-related with robust levels of mental health and stress resilience, resulting in a longer lifespan. (Well-brie-ing?)

• “Sunglasses Day”, the 88th anniversary of the debut of ‘Ray-Ban Sunglasses’. In the 1930s, the US military commissioned glasses that would protect pilots from sun glare. But they didn’t become a real fad until the ‘60s when an ad campaign asked, “Who’s behind those Foster Grants?”
