BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson encourages those who are planning to watch “Moana 2” this week to sing their hearts out in the theaters, if they feel like it. At the UK premiere over the weekend, Johnson said: “Sing! You’ve paid your hard-earned money for a ticket, and you’ve gone into a musical and you’re into it. Sing.” Johnson, who plays the character ‘Maui’, hit the red carpet alongside Auli’i Cravalh, who reprised her role as ‘Moana’. The conversation around proper movie theater etiquette sparked up after the release of movie musical “Wicked” on Friday.

★ CBS has set a date for “The Talk‘s” very last conversation. The long-running chat show will kick off its final week of episodes on Monday, Dec. 16, and the series finale will air Friday, Dec. 20. While guests have not yet been announced, hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell and Sheryl Underwood all will be on hand for a series of “big holiday giveaways” totaling $2.5 million throughout December. The Talk will be replaced by “Beyond the Gates”, daytime’s first new soap opera in a quarter-century, which will premiere Feb. 24.

★ It’s the one with Friendsgiving. Jennifer Aniston celebrated Friendsgiving on Monday and shared “a few scenes” from the pre-Thanksgiving gathering on her Instagram story. The “Friends” star posted a photo showing a series of blurry, mostly black-and-white Polaroid snaps of her co-star Courteney Cox, and other revelers as they enjoyed the occasion. Along with a heart emoji, she wrote in the caption: “A few scenes from Friendsgiving.” In addition to Cox, many online believed Aniston’s pal Sandra Bullock was among the celebrants pictured in the grainy pics. ★ A sequel to the Oscar-winning film “Slumdog Millionaire” could soon be in the works. Bridge7, a newly formed production banner, has secured film sequel and television rights. The 2008 Danny Boyle-directed feature, about a young man from an impoverished background who competes on India’s version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,” collected 8 Academy Awards, including best picture and director, with Dev Patel making his film debut as ‘Jamal’. It is unclear whether Patel, and other original cast members would return for the potential sequel, which will tell “the next chapter of Jamal’s journey.”

★ There is a big change coming to tomorrow morning’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – ‘Minnie Mouse’ will be joining the traditional assortment of enormous balloon characters, including Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto – and Mickey Mouse. The huge balloons are a big part of the annual parade on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and according to the Macy’s, Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in the parade in 1934 – but Minnie will be making her debut at tomorrow’s event – 90 years later. Macy’s says Minnie will be represented by a balloon 60 feet tall, 60 feet long, and 34 feet wide. And she will be wearing her signature yellow heels and polka dot bow.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Lady Gaga – has given fans a hint of where she is going on her upcoming album. Speaking to Vogue, she said they can expect “a darker style of pop,” as well as “fantasies” and “escapes.” She also said: “The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and I think in that way is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.” (Thanks for clearing that up…I think!)
• SZA – says fans won’t have long to wait to hear her new music. She joined her friend Lizzo on Kai Cenat’s Mafiathon 2 livestream. At one point, she decided to open up about her upcoming album. She didn’t provide a lot of details, but did say: “It’ll be out before the year is over.”
• Band Aid – The new version of ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ is out, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the all-star charity single. The song was recorded on 3 separate occasions, in 1984, 2004 and 2014, and the new mix features parts of each. So, you’ll hear a young Sting sing alongside a young Ed Sheeran. A young Boy George, with a young Sam Smith, and a young George Michael with a young Harry Styles. And a young Bono with an older Bono! LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2s3a2vyw
• Elton John – On “Good Morning America”, he gave an update on his ongoing eye ailment, an infection that caused him to lose sight in one eye. Quote: “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK”. But at least for now, he is unable to record music because “I can’t see, a lyric, for start…I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything.”
• Paul McCartney – attended the premiere of the new Disney+ documentary “Beatles ’64” in New York on Sunday. The film, captures the Fab Four’s first trip to the U.S. Also in attendance were John Lennon‘s son Sean Ono Lennon and George Harrison‘s widow, Olivia Harrison, and the film’s producer, Martin Scorsese. Beatles ’64 will stream on Disney+ starting Friday. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/45p6fj3u
• Morgan Wallen and Zach Bryan – are among the top nominees for the 2024 Billboard Music Awards on Dec. 12. Bryan leads the 2024 BBMA finalists list with 21 nominations, while Wallen has 15. Other country artists with noms include Luke Combs, Post Malone, Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton, Shaboozey, Bailey Zimmerman, Megan Moroney, and Kenny Chesney. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3eyw7s5e
• Jelly Roll – joined the Grammy-nominated pop band OneRepublic for the now single ‘Hurt’. The original version of the song appears on OneRepublic’s album “Artificial Paradise”, which dropped earlier this year. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4nurx5rz
• Riley Green – has given his iconic facial hair a name. In a recent interview, the subject of the small patch of hair just below his lower lip came up. Many would call it a soul patch, but Green said: “I call it ‘The Conquistador.’” He also pointed out that he “can hide a lot of emotions” with it, and provided a demonstration, showing that his face looks the same whether he’s happy or angry.

SHOOTING THE BULL

NEW MOVIES THIS WEEK:
This week’s new releases are dropping today, thanks to the US Thanksgiving holiday…
• “Moana 2” (PG, Animated, Comedy-Adventure): An unexpected call from her ancestors finds Moana traveling to the far seas of Oceania for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced. (Auli’I Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Alan Tudyk) No Tomatometer rating.
• “Queer” (R, Biographical Drama, limited release): In 1950s Mexico City, 50-ish American William Lee leads a solitary life in a small community. But the arrival of a young student stirs William into finally establishing a meaningful connection with someone. (Daniel Craig, Lesley Manville, Drew Starkey) Tomatometer: 77%

THANKSGLUTTONY:
❑ The average American will consume roughly a day’s worth of calories in one sitting on Thanksgiving, according to a new report. Researchers at Levity surveyed more than 1,000 eager eaters, and found that the average intake for tomorrow’s big meal will be a whopping 2,092 calories. That’s the average. 14% said they plan to take in at least 3,000 calories, while 4% are aiming to inhale more than 5,000. According to current guidelines from the USDA and the Department of Health & Human Services, adults require 1,600-3,000 calories per day. When it comes to favorite dishes, 47% said it has to be turkey, 34% said the stuffing, and 24% are in it for the macaroni and cheese. Least favorite? 16% said cranberry sauce. (My fav is the ketchup. Because you’ve never seen anyone cook a turkey quite the way my sister does…!)
❑ A quarter of us admit we’re still carrying pounds gained during last year’s holiday season. A new survey of 2,000 Americans found that 24% are still carrying weight from the end of 2023; on average, about 10 pounds (4.5kg). As for what we expect to add to that this year, people said they expect to gain an average of 6 additional pounds before the New Year arrives. (Challenge accepted!)

WEDDING VENDOR:
The world’s first liquor store with a wedding chapel has opened. Where? No, actually it’s NOT in Las Vegas, but New Orleans. “Chuck’s on the Avenue” hosted a wedding ceremony for a Louisiana couple, who exchanged vows next to the beer cooler. Owner Charles Loescher walked the bride down the aisle for the ceremony, which was officiated by New Orleans Saints superfan and ordained minister Randy “Elvis” Bonnaval. The couple’s first dance was to an Elvis Presley song. There was also a performance by the New Orleans Brass Band, a flower girl throwing black and gold beads, and a second line dancing through the bourbon section and the tequila aisle. Chuck’s wedding packages start at $500, and you can opt in for extras, like the beer truck driver serving as witness, and bourbon tasting at the reception (with room for up to 20 people). The groom at the venue’s first ceremony said he and his bride selected Chuck’s because “We just love to drink and we figured it’s perfect…We said, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’”
(Do they at least close the store while the ceremony is on?)
(If a place like that existed when I got married, my mother-in-law probably wouldn’t have boycotted the ceremony!)

10-3-2-1-0 SLEEP RULE:
A new TikTok trend aimed at people who wish they could sleep better is called the “10-3-2-1-0 sleep rule”. It’s a series of pre-bedtime steps you take throughout the day to prepare you for a better night of sleep. And many doctors are agreeing that these guidelines could actually help you focus on adopting healthier sleep habits. Here’s how the 10-3-2-1-0 sleep rule works…
✓ 10 hours before bed: No more caffeine. Because even if you don’t believe caffeine affects your sleep, it does. (Yeah, this’ll help me sleep – at about 3:00 in the afternoon!)
✓ 3 hours before bed: No more food or alcohol. Because it takes about 3 hours for food to move through the digestive system, and this can interfere with sleep. And as you know, booze causes poor quality sleep, so stay away from that for at least 3 hours as well.
✓ 2 hours before bed: No more work or studying. Anything that’s mentally (or emotionally) stimulating before bed can affect your sleep. This also means, in order to unwind, avoiding stressful movies, sports, and the news. (ESPECIALLY the news!)
✓ 1 hour before bed: No more screen time. Screens emit blue light, which may impact sleep by disturbing your circadian rhythm. Try deep breathing, or reading. (Reading a book, not a tablet, obviously!)
✓ 0: No hitting “snooze” the next morning. Doing so just leads to a more-fragmented sleep-awake-sleep cycle, and is not as restorative as regular sleep. If you need more sleep, go to bed earlier.
(I tried this system out, and it works PERFECTLY. Unless you have a dog with the runs…!)

DID YOU KNOW?

Scientists say they have solved the age-old question: ‘Which came first – the chicken or the egg?’ A team in Switzerland says that long before chickens clucked or embryos developed, a microscopic marine creature was involved in the intricate act of cellular division. Researchers at the University of Geneva discovered something extraordinary in Chromosphaera perkinsii, a single-celled organism. It turns out that the genetic machinery for creating eggs — the fundamental starting point of complex life — existed in this organism over a billion years before animals emerged. That means that scientifically speaking, the egg came long before the chicken – or any other animal. (Fine. Now get to work on something important, like which is the right way to hang the toilet paper!)

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Blackout Wednesday”. Sometimes referred to as “Drinksgiving”, it takes place the night before Thanksgiving Day. In some parts of the US, it’s one of the biggest drinking and party nights of the year. (Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal with a side of Aspirin tomorrow!)
• “Jukebox Day”, recognizing the important role jukeboxes have played throughout musical history. The name ‘jukebox’ is thought to originate from places called ‘juke houses’ or ‘juke joints.’ In the early 1900s, people congregated in these establishments to drink and listen to music.
• “Family Caregivers Day”. If you know someone who is caring for an ill family member, maybe offer to help – even if just for an hour, every now and then.
• “Bavarian Cream Pie Day”, an annual salute to the delicious, chilled dessert made with cooked egg custard layered with whipped cream and toppings in a pie shell.
• “Pie in the Face Day”. Rather than Bavarian, can I opt for pumpkin instead? After all, it IS the holiday season!
• “Electric Guitar Day”. Not-so-coincidentally, it’s also Jimi Hendrix’s birthday (born in 1942).
• “Pins and Needles Day”. Although this occasion may refer to that tingling feeling you get after sitting or lying in an awkward position — I see it as Christmas decorating. We have pine needles and metal pins all over the house now – and I won’t be able to walk around barefoot until probably February…
• “Turtle Adoption Day”. Also known as “Turtle Sponsorship Day”, it’s a “day of action for the protection of endangered reptiles”, specifically turtles. (***Here are some “Fast” facts about turtles: https://tinyurl.com/mwjx2zm ***)

BULL’S BITS

BS WHACK FACTS:
✓ The longest work of English literature written by one person is a Super Mario Bros. fan fiction story (4.1 million words).
✓ The difference between jam and jelly is that jam is made with mashed up fruit while jelly is made with fruit juice.
✓ The Las Vegas strip isn’t in Las Vegas. Technically, it’s in the unincorporated city of Paradise.
✓ Earth used to be covered with giant mushrooms that were 24 feet tall and 3 feet wide, instead of trees.
✓ There are more trees on Earth than stars in the galaxy
✓ For a short time, the planet Uranus was named…George.
-FunFacts, ReadersDigest

BS WHACK TURKEY FACTS:
✓ Male turkeys gobble. Hens do not. They make a clicking noise.
✓ That flesh-like appendage that hangs over a turkey’s beak is called the ‘snood’. The ‘wattle’ is the bright red appendage on the neck.
✓ A 15 lb turkey usually has about 70% white meat and 30% dark meat.
✓ Commercially raised turkeys are too heavy to fly. In fact, breeding has caused turkey breasts to grow so large that they sometimes fall over.
✓ Nutritionists believe that the amount of tryptophan in turkey is insufficient to induce sleepiness. Rather, it’s the traditional bun-potato-stuffing-pie Thanksgiving meal as a whole that triggers after-dinner lethargy (plus all that wine…).
✓ Despite the myth, there has never been a documented case of a turkey drowning after looking up when it’s raining.
