BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Mark Chavez, one of the 2 doctors charged in connection with “Friends” star Matthew Perry’s death, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine as part of a plea agreement during a court appearance in LA Wednesday. As per the agreement, Chavez formally pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute ketamine to Perry, who died in October due to “acute effects” of the anesthetic and subsequent drowning, according to the LA County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was 54.

★ Andrew Garfield says he’d play ‘’Spider-Man’ again — under a few conditions. He said to Esquire that he’d “100% come back if it was the right thing…if there’s a great concept or something that hasn’t been done before that’s unique and odd and exciting and that you can sink your teeth into.” Garfield, who played the superhero, and his alter-ego ‘Peter Parker’ in 2012’s “The Amazing Spider-Man”, and returned for 2 sequels, said “I love that character, and it brings joy.”
-NYPost
★ Although details of “Yellowstone’s” ending are being kept top secret, there is one part of the final episodes that is public knowledge: Kevin Costner will not reprise his role of family patriarch ‘John Dutton’. What exactly happens to him is unclear, but according to star Kelly Reilly, who plays ‘Beth’, Costner’s absence didn’t change anything about the ending that creator Taylor Sheridan had been working toward from day one. Reilly told EW: “The absence was part of the ending…that was already written into the…story. It was always going to happen, it just happened a little bit differently.” Yellowstone premieres its final season on Nov. 10.

★ “Rugrats” is returning to the big screen. The beloved 1990s animated series from Nickelodeon is getting the live-action treatment from Paramount, with “Pitch Perfect” director Jason Moore on board to direct the new project. He’ll be working from a script by “Saturday Night Live” regular Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell. Paramount describes the feature as a “a live-action CG hybrid,” based on the original series. That means yes, the babies will be CGI. The series has already inspired a number of theatrical films, including 1998’s “The Rugrats Movie,” 2000’s “Rugrats in Paris” and 2003’s “Rugrats Go Wild.”
-TheWrap
★ DC Studios has announced the animated movie “Dynamic Duo” – featuring TWO ‘Robins’. The upcoming flick will follow the early days of ‘Dick Grayson’ and ‘Jason Todd’ – two iterations of Batman’s famed sidekick. Directed by Arthur Mintz and co-produced by Matt Reeves, who oversaw “The Batman”, the project won’t be connected to his superhero universe. Reeves called the upcoming movie “an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift — The guy who went viral for paying $4,000 to take a hammer to a Taylor Swift guitar says he did it for “a joke” – and now it’ll be used to raise thousands more for a kids’ charity. Gary Estes donated the smashed guitar back to the youth charity, and it is now listed on eBay, where at last check the top bid was $4,400. LINK:  https://tinyurl.com/2yd55fwx
• Olivia Rodrigo — has announced a Netflix concert special. Her “GUTS World Tour” performance from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles will debut on Oct. 29. Olivia quote: “For those of you who didn’t get a chance to rock out in-person, now you can have the best seats in the house! The “Guts” tour ran from Feb. 2025-March 2025.
• Coldplay – Chris Martin has confirmed that the group’s 12th album will be its last. In an interview promoting the group’s 10th album “Moon Music,” out today, he said: “Less is more…It’s really important that we have that limit.” He pointed to the series of ‘Harry Potter’ books (there are 7) as an example, and musical acts such as The Beatles and Bob Marley, who released about 12 albums each.
• Elton John – At Tuesday’s premiere of his “Never Too Late” doc at the New York Film Fest, he joked about his health concerns over the years, saying: “To be honest with you, there’s not much of me left.” He then went into details, saying: “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee…But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough].”
• Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – To preview the expanded reissue of their 1982 album “Long After Dark” (out Oct. 18), a previously unreleased French television recording of ‘Between Two Worlds’ has been released. The clip shows never-before-seen archival footage of the band. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2fbrfvmu
• Loverboy — has re-recorded ‘Working for the Weekend’ for a new IHOP commercial – with a slight change. The 1981 hit has been transformed into ‘Working for the Weekday’ in the ad, which features bandana-wearing maple syrup dispensers recreating the song’s music video. It’s to promote the restaurant’s new weekday House Faves menu. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/6tutjha8
• Jelly Roll – His CMA award was beautifully broken, just like his new album of the same name. On Jimmy Fallon, he detailed how after winning ‘new artist of the year’ last year, he immediately “fumbled” the glass award. Fallon then played a clip of the sound of shattering glass during a broadcast from backstage at the show. Jelly said he dropped it because he “had the sweatiest, shakiest palms.”
• Luke Bryan – has an opinion on why Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” album wasn’t nominated for any CMA Awards. Interview quote: “Everybody loved that Beyoncé made a country album, but…if you’re gonna make country albums, come into our world and be country with us a little bit.” He went on to suggest she “Come to an awards show and high-5 us. And have fun and get in the family, too.”
• Megan Moroney – Today, she releases the deluxe version of her “Am I Okay?” album. “Am I Okay? (I Am Fine)” will contain 17 songs, including 3 new ones: ‘Break It Right Back’, ‘Bless Your Heart’, and ‘I’ll Be Fine’. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yjrxws9h

SHOOTING THE BULL

• “White Bird” (PG-13, Adventure/Drama): Struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled, Julian is visited by his grandmother and is transformed by the story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II. (Mel Gibson, Lorraine Bracco, Kevin James) No Tomatometer rating.

SURVEYS SAY:
❑ Millennials and Gen Z are much more likely to discuss their pay than older workers, according to a study. A survey carried out late last year found that 86% of Gen Zers are open to talking about their salaries, followed by 59% of Millennials. The numbers drop significantly for older workers, with only 40% of Gen X workers and 41% of Baby Boomers willing to discuss the subject. (That’s because if the younger workers ever found out how much the older workers make, there’d be heck to ‘pay’…if you’ll pardon the pun!)
❑ What are your favorite “small pleasures”? According to a survey, Americans’ top 3 ‘simple joys’ are, in order: Waking up after a good night’s sleep, catching up with an old friend (or loved one), and enjoying a cup of coffee. The survey of 2,000 adults found that next on the “joy” list, in order, are: watching their favorite show, the smell of freshly-brewed coffee, hearing their favorite song on the radio, the smell of freshly-baked cookies, and having someone say they were thinking about them. The top-10 was rounded out with waking up to the sun shining, and listening to the rain while sitting inside with a warm drink. (Well, I have to admit that waking up after a good sleep is a whole lot better than NOT waking up after a good sleep!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ Police were called to the local Target in Flagler, Florida after a manager reported a man had walked out of the store without paying for a $539 electric scooter. Before entering the store, deputies spotted a man matching the suspect’s description, assembling the electric scooter on the sidewalk out front — with the product’s open box beside him. According to the arrest affidavit, 28-year-old Patrick Miller admitted to taking the vehicle because he “needed a ride”. (Oh, he DEFINITELY got a ride!)
➢ A man who used a massage gun on his face and eyes had to undergo surgery after – you guessed it – damaging his eyes. Mr. Luo (no last name given), a fitness enthusiast in China, purchased a battery-powered massage gun at the recommendation of a fitness instructor, who told him it would work wonders on his tired muscles. It proved incredibly effective, so the 42-year-old decided to use it on his eyes as well, because they often felt tired and dry. Bad idea. He later told doctors that he set it on “low” and used it on the acupuncture points around his eyes for 5 minutes at a time. But after using the massage gun on his eyes for about a week, his vision became blurry. At hospital, he was diagnosed with lens dislocation and cataracts. (Maybe he should have closed his eyes first!)

OVERRATED FOODS:
A recent Reddit thread ask users “What is the most overrated food you’re convinced people are just pretending to enjoy?” Here are the best of the 24,000 answers…
→ “Kale. Let’s be honest, it tastes like crunchy sadness.”
→ “Caviar — pretty sure people are just paying for the bragging rights, not the taste.”
→ “Those giant milkshakes with absurd toppings like a slice of cake, jumbo swirly lollipops, and cotton candy/fairy floss.”
→ “Lobster. Anything that has to be dunked/drenched in butter to enjoy can’t be all that good.”
→ “Burgers with 5 different sauces and 20 different ingredients. People are eating mush and telling themselves it’s good.” (This person is SO wrong!)
→ “Matcha. Why yes, I’ll have a cup of hot grass clippings!”
→”Avocado. It tastes like how I imagined the color green would taste.”
→ “Licorice. Fruit-flavored window sealant.”
→ “Olives: the Devil’s Grapes. Gross things.”
→ “Raw oysters for me. So expensive, maybe gonna make you seriously sick.”
→ “Turkey, without a doubt. Disgusting.” (Whaaaa?)
→ “Sea cucumber. The texture is gross, the aftertaste is gross, and the appearance looks like a hippo’s slimy dung after consuming a field of algae. (Someone has a very strong opinion on this…!)
→ “Blue cheese. Smells and tastes like vomit to me.” (Not wrong!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Have you ever noticed that the word “internet” is capitalized sometimes? Yeah, don’t do that. The question of whether ‘internet’ deserves an upper-case ‘I’ is controversial. Experts say that using the capital ‘I’ was common in the early days of the Web, especially in technical writing. However, as the internet has become part of our lives, most people now write it with a lowercase ‘i’. Dialect can make a difference, too, as capitalizing ‘Internet’ is more common in American English than British English. Grammer experts agree that while ultimately, it is a matter of preference, why would you give a noun a capital letter — unless you do the same thing for “shoe”? (But stay tuned: In about 5 years, AI will force us to capitalize it – just like any God or ruler!)

BS CHRONOMETER 10.04.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Cinnamon Roll Day”, or “Kanelbullens Dag” as it’s known in Sweden, the country of the yummy sweet-bun’s presumed origin. A good excuse to scarf one with your coffee this morning. (One another after…)
• “Improve Your Office Day”, a day to focus on ways to make your work experience better. Ideas: Keep it clean; simplify; and bring a piece of outside…inside. (Also: cinnamon rolls.)
• “International Toot Your Flute Day”, to encourage the idea of selling yourself — and telling others how good you are, while rejecting the idea that self-promotion is ‘bragging’. (The problem is that you’ll probably have to listen to others doing the same thing!)
• “Taco Day”, an annual celebration of the great taste of the traditional Mexican dish. In the 18th century, Mexican silver miners used “plugs” or “wads”—paper wrappers with gunpowder fillings—to extract ore, and these were called tacos. Tacos likely got their name because they resembled the explosives. (You’d almost think they’d have this on a Tuesday, no?)
• “World Smile Day”, observed annually on the first Friday in October, when we’re encouraged to do an act of kindness … and help one person smile. (I do this every time I leave a room…) LINK: http://www.worldsmileday.com
• “Vodka Day”, celebrating the versatile, virtually tasteless and odorless tipple that accounts for about 25% of spirits sold in North America. There are some wild and wacky added-flavor vodkas available, including maple syrup, root beer float, s’mores, PB & J and – an homage to the breakfast cereal Fruit Loops – ‘Loopy’. More savory options include smoked salmon, chili peppers, bacon, espresso, cucumber, rose and buttered popcorn. (Buttered popcorn flavor? I’m shaken. And stirred.)
• “Golf Lover’s Day”, providing an opportunity for golf enthusiasts to swing down the fairway at least one more time this season. (I’m so bad, last time I golfed, I lost 2 balls in the ball washer!)
• “Diversity Day”, taking place during Global Diversity Awareness Month, it’s “a day to celebrate and embrace who we are, despite our differences, no matter what race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, nationality, or disability.”

SATURDAY:
• “James Bond Day”, celebrating the Bond franchise on the anniversary of the date on which the first Bond film, “Dr. No”, premiered in London, in 1962. James Bond Day was first celebrated in 2012, to mark the 50th anniversary of the film series.
• “Frugal Fun Day”. What can you do for free that’s a real blast? How about going to the mall to try on fancy clothes just for fun? Put it on social media! Or maybe test drive a vehicle you couldn’t possibly afford to buy? (Don’t tell them that I sent you!)
• “Apple Betty Day”, honoring the dessert related to ‘Apple Brown Betty’, ‘Apple Crisp’, ‘Apple Crumble’ and ‘Apple Cobbler’. (Whatever you call it … pass the ice cream!)
• “World Teachers Day”, begun by UNESCO in 1994 as recognition for the vital contribution teachers make to education & development. Over 100 countries now observe the day.
• “Do Something Nice Day”, anything nice. And, do it to . . . or for, another individual. At the very least, it results in a smile. (At worst, they’ll think you’re up to something…)
• “National Get Funky Day”. Turn up the energy, improve the mood, smile, laugh, dance and share the enthusiasm everywhere you go. Today is the day to break out of your funk and get funky. (***And if you REALLY want to get funky: https://tinyurl.com/yyly6mrq ***)

SUNDAY:
• “Mad Hatter Day”, described as ‘April Fool’s Day without the pranks’, it’s an opportunity to celebrate silliness. The date was chosen from illustrations depicting the ‘Mad Hatter’ character from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” wearing a hat with a slip of paper that reads: “In this style 10/6”.
• “Plus Size Appreciation Day”, recognizing the gorgeous men and women who may be larger — but are also larger than life in so many ways. The day’s founder, Women Rock, Inc., says the day is for “boosting the confidence for many women and men around the world.”
• “German-American Day”, honoring the likes of Albert Einstein, Lou Gehrig, John Steinbeck, and Levi Strauss. In fact, German-Americans make up 17% of the US population (49 million). Prosit!
• “Physician Assistant Day”, honoring those nice people who order you to take off all your clothes and put the gown on. And make sure the opening is at the back!
• “Come and Take It Day”, a day to go out and take something that you’ve always wanted, or to defiantly say “come and take it” to someone who wants something from you that you don’t want to give up.
• “Noodle Day”. Can you believe that noodles have been around for over 4,000 years? They are popular all over the world and range in shape from flat, to round, to twisted, to sheets, to tubes, and many more. They can be made from rice, buckwheat, wheat, with or without eggs, and even from zucchini.
• “Coaches Day”. Today, thank and honor a coach, either past or present, who made a positive impact on you or a loved one. If you are a coach, check in with those you work with, or those you have mentored.
• “World Cerebral Palsy Day”, when people come together to celebrate and support those living with CP, and help create a more accessible future. Cerebral Palsy affects more than 18 million people worldwide. LINK: https://worldcpday.org/
• “Garlic Lovers Day”, saluting the ‘stinking rose’ that has been cultivated as long as history has been recorded. A few stinky facts …
→ Over 5,000 years ago, Chinese herbalists used garlic to reduce blood pressure.
→ In Medieval times, it was believed that garlic worn as a necklace would stop your soul from leaving your body.
→ Spraying yourself with garlic oil will repel mosquitoes.
→ It’s said that if you rub a clove of garlic on your partner’s feet at night, you’ll taste it on his or her breath the next morning. (We wonder if the opposite is also true!)
