BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ “The Notebook” star Gena Rowlands is living with Alzheimer’s disease, her son Nick Cassavetes announced in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. Cassavetes, who directed his mother in the 2004 film, said the 94-year-old is “in full dementia.” A 4-time Emmy winner and 2-time Golden Globe winner, Rowlands is a screen icon best known for her acclaimed collaborations with husband John Cassavetes, including 1974’s “A Woman Under the Influence” and “Gloria” in 1980. Both performances earned her Oscar nominations. She received an honorary Academy Award in 2015.

★ Belated congratulations are in order for Mindy Kaling. The “Mindy Project” star announced on her 45th birthday Monday that she quietly gave birth to her third child, a daughter named Anne, in late February. She posted pics of the baby with siblings Katherine, who is 6, and 3-year-old Spencer. It’s not the first time she has surprised fans with baby news. In 2020, Kaling announced on “Colbert” that she had given birth to Spencer — without ever letting the public know she had been pregnant. She has never disclosed the father of her children. ★ Huge news for the “Shrek” fans: Eddie Murphy confirmed that he’s already begun voice work on the upcoming 5th movie in the animated film franchise. In an interview, he stated that work started on the film “months ago”, and the plan is for it to be finished this year. And that’s not all: Murphy also confirmed that he’s going to star in a spinoff film based on his Shrek character ‘Donkey’.

★ The 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame class has been revealed, and it includes major celebrities like the late Prince, Jane Fonda, Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell and more. More than 30 new stars will be added to the Walk of Fame. Motion picture category honorees also include John Carpenter, Robert Englund and Emilio Estevez. In the TV category, Fran Drescher, Lauren Graham, Bill Nye, Molly Shannon, Sherri Shepherd, Courtney B. Vance, Chris Wallace, and Trey Parker and Matt Stone (in a double ceremony) will
be honored, while Fantasia, Depeche Mode, The B-52s, Green Day, The Isley Brothers, Busta Rhymes, George Strait, Keith Urban, and War will be honored in the recording category.

★ A sequel to the iconic comedy “Freaky Friday” is well underway, and Disney has confirmed a release year for the project. With Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprising the roles of mother-daughter duo ‘Anna’ and ‘Tess Coleman’, the follow-up to Mark Waters’ 2003 movie is expected to hit cinemas in 2025. Disney marked the announcement with a shot of the 2 stars holding hands on set. The pic is a nod to the body-swap plot, as Lohan is pictured outside Curtis’s trailer, while Curtis is seen on the stairs of her co-star’s trailer, and doing the ‘rock on’ gesture, just as teen rocker Anna would. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Taylor Swift – seems to have responded after Foo Fighter Dave Grohl threw shade her, joking to a London crowd that they were calling their tour the Errors Tour, “because we play live.” Following a standing ovation at Wembley, Swift told her crowd: “Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band who’s gonna be playing live for you for 3½ hours tonight, they deserve this so much.”
• Sabrina Carpenter — made her runway debut at the Vogue World 2024: Paris on Sunday. She was said to add “a jolt of joie de vivre” to the event, wearing a red-and-white striped bathing suit with a matching kerchief and sarong by Jacquemus, paired with bright red shoes. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5ymub5af
• David Foster –will celebrate 75th birthday with a star-studded Hollywood Bowl concert on Nov. 3. The event, named “You’re the Inspiration” after a song he co-wrote for the band Chicago, will feature performances from artists including Michael Bublé, Kristin Chenoweth, Andrea Bocelli, Jennifer Hudson, Charlie Puth, Josh Groban, Kenny G and Foster’s wife Katharine McPhee.
• Def Leppard – Guitarist Phil Collen said that their new single ‘Just Like ‘73’ “is absolutely the seed of another Def Leppard album”, which he is guessing might come out in 2025 or ’26. The new single will arrive on 7-inch vinyl on August 2.
• The Who – Roger Daltrey says he won’t rest until he’s made the planned biopic about the group’s late charismatic drummer Keith Moon. Daltrey has been working on the project for years, and says the script is complete, and now he’s “trying to get the best available director, ’cause all the good ones are always working.” No star has been attached to the lead role yet.
• Morgan Wallen – de-activated his Instagram profile over the weekend, with no explanation. Interestingly, his ‘Cowgirls’ collab partner Ernest has also left the platform. No official explanation yet, but fans are guessing it’s part of early promotion for a new music or event announcement.
• Josh Turner — has announced his 10th studio album “This Country Music Thing”. Out Aug. 16, it will feature the songs ‘Down in Georgia’ and ‘Heatin’ Things Up’, both out now. He has posted an album trailer on Instagram. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/26h3nvse
• Dwight Yoakam — will be among the artists honored with Lifetime Achievement awards by the Americana Music Association at its award show on Sept. 18. Also set to receive honors are: Dave Alvin, Shelby Lynne, The Blind Boys of Alabama, the late Rev. Gary Davis and Don Was.

SHOOTING THE BULL

IS ‘ON TIME’ ON POINT?
It’s the latest workplace battle between generations: Is it really necessary to show up to work on time? The Daily Mail reports that almost half of employees aged 16-26 feel that arriving at work between 5 and 10 minutes late is perfectly fine. In fact, to them, that counts as being “on time”. As you can imagine, that doesn’t fly with older veterans of the workforce. Stats show that 39% of millennials (ages 27-42) will forgive friends or colleagues for being up to 10 minutes late. That drops to 26% for Gen X (43-58) and 20% among Baby Boomers (those over 59). And a little something to keep in mind if you’re a Gen Z who thinks nothing of sliding into the office at 9:15 in the morning: There’s a pretty good chance your boss falls into one of those older categories. A whopping 7 out of 10 Boomers say they have zero tolerance for any level of tardiness. They simply feel that “late is late”.
(It was also found that only boomers even know what the word “tardiness” means, let alone use it!)
(To their credit, maybe by being late all the time, Gen Z is looking at the big picture: They’re training for a future career working in a doctor’s office!)

THE ONE-DOLLAR RULE:
While some are still arguing about the merits of the “no-spend” challenge, a financial planner has shared her alternative. Bernadette Joy says that rather than using the traditional scrimp-and-save method to wipe out debt or build savings, her $1 rule is the way to go. Her “buy it if you’re going to get good value from it” approach is pro-spending, but only if the math works. It works like this: Simply take the cost of something, divide it by the number of times you’re likely to use it, and if it’s less than $1 per use, then buy it. If it’s more than $1 per use, walk away. As an example, say you’re thinking about buying a cheap pair of shoes. If they cost $50 and you’ll only wear them twice, your cost per use is $25. Using the $1 rule, that’s a hard no. You might also consider spending $350 on a high-quality pair of shoes. You know you’ll wear them for years, and might get 400 wears out of them. That’s less than $1 per wear, so that would be a thumbs-up purchase. Admittedly, there are exceptions to the rule — concert tickets and travel experiences among them. But, as Joy says, the $1 rule is all about stretching your hard-earned money as far as it can go.
(Nice! Who’s got $350 to lend me? The rule says I need to buy some nice shoes!)
(Anyone want to go for a ride? I’ve got to drive my car about 39,000 more times before the lease is up!)

RECEDING ADVANCES:
Could it be that there’s a cure for baldness on the way? Researchers in England say they’ve discovered a “biological mechanism” that causes hair to thin. The team, from the University of Manchester, uncovered the link while testing a drug designed to boost hair follicles in the scalp. Long story short, hair follicle cells become stressed as they age, slowing down growth. But if a follicle experiences too much stress, the cell can die, which stops, rather than slows hair growth. The scientists feel that if they can find a way to stop overstressing follicles, they may be able to develop a drug to prevent hair loss. By the time they reach middle age, roughly 85% of men are affected by hair loss, and 50% of women.
(To me, it’s quite clear that the way to stop overstressing hair follicles is to stop making men spend all day EVERY FREAKING SATURDAY at the garden center and Walmart!!!!)
(Great. Next, can they please start working on something important – like a cure for ear hair?)

PHRASES THAT THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE USE – OFTEN:
Finland and Denmark hold the top spots on the World Happiness Report’s ranking of the happiest countries in the world. Here are 3 phrases to add to your vocab if you’d like to live a happier life, according to a group of business leaders from those countries…
1. “Whatever you leave behind, you will find in front of you”: In Finland, this phrase implies that leaving an issue unattended will only result in a bigger issue. So, the way to handle a problem is to address it when it comes up. (I’ll tell you why I have a problem with that…)
2. “Pyt med det”: People in Denmark use this phrase, which roughly translates to “Don’t worry about it”, to remind themselves that people can get stressed to the point of harming their mental health and productivity, often about circumstances outside of their control. For them, this phrase is a reassurance that things will be okay, even when they seem not to be.
3. “Some have happiness, everyone has summer”: Remember this one when it seems like all your social media connections have fabulous lives. This phrase reminds us that no matter what you’re dealing with, better days will come. And tomorrow, someone else might comes across a rough time, while something wonderful comes your way.
(What’s YOUR go-to “happy phrase”?)

DID YOU KNOW?
A British man has climbed a 3,560ft mountain – with a clothes dryer strapped to his back. Builder Tommy Dunford scaled Yr Wyddfa in Wales, previously known as Snowdon, while carrying the hulking 40kg (88lb.) appliance, to raise money for renovations to his local rugby team’s clubhouse, where he is a coach. To train for the feat, the 33-year-old spent his evenings walking around the hills of his hometown of Horbury, with the tumble dryer strapped to his back. The challenge has, so far, raised over £6,000, which Dunford called “amazing”. He described his climb as “really hard”, and said: “It was a relief that I got to the top.” But at that point, he was only halfway done. He then headed back down again with his heavy load to complete his epic 9.5mile (15.5km) challenge. (Impressive. Also impressive: That he was able to find an extension cord that long!)

BS CHRONOMETER 06.26.24

TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Beautician’s Day”, your chance to show your appreciation to those who make you look beautiful. That includes your hairstylist, manicurist, esthetician (and Photoshop…).
• “Chocolate Pudding Day”, celebrating the ooey-gooey dessert most toddlers like to eat … with their hands.
• “Coconut Day”. Fun Fact: Coconuts are not nuts! In fact, they are more closely related to cherries, dates, peaches, apricots and nectarines, which are all a part of the drupe family — a fruit with a hard stony covering enclosing the seed.
• “Tropical Cocktails Day”. Don’t forget to add a few frilly umbrellas for extra flair!
• “Forgiveness Day”. Has someone wronged you over the past year? Did they do something so bad that it almost seemed unforgivable? Today is for forgiving others, and for being forgiven. If everyone celebrated Forgiveness Day, the world would be a better place.
• “International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking”, a UN observance established in 1987, with the goal of achieving an international society free of drug abuse.
• “National Canoe Day” in Canada. The canoe has been chosen as one of the ‘Seven Wonders of Canada’. Quote: “A true Canadian is one who can make love in a canoe without tipping.” – Pierre Berton
• “Parchment Day”. Parchment paper may first have been made from animals and used for writing, but for the past few centuries, it has also been made from plant-derived cellulose and used for cooking, and is also known as culinary parchment, kitchen parchment, baking paper, and bakery paper.
