BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ It’s official. Netflix has confirmed Yerin Ha will join the Season 4 cast of “Bridgerton” as the love interest for ‘Benedict Bridgerton’, played by Luke Thompson. Ha will portray ‘Sophie Baek’ (‘Beckett’ in the book series), who has a slow burn romance with Benedict. Benedict, despite his brothers both being happily married, isn’t ready to settle down — “until he meets a captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.” The streamer also unveiled a first-look teaser featuring Ha as Sophie. ★ “It Ends With Us” continues to make history at the box office. The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover‘s bestseller about a woman whose fairy-tale marriage turns abusive has amassed more than $309 million in global ticket sales, to become the top-grossing romantic drama since 2018’s Oscar-nominated “A Star is Born”, which earned $436 million. Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, who also directed, star in the movie, which has now made more than such female-fueled hits as “Anyone But You”, “Crazy Rich Asians”, “The Fault in Our Stars”, and “Me Before You”.

The Sun says that several cast members from the original movie are expected to return for the sequel. The sequel is scheduled to film next year, with a possible release date in 2026 or 2027.

★ Jana Kramer is teasing fans with new tidbits about the “One Tree Hill” reboot. On a new episode of her “Whine Down” podcast, Kramer confirmed that Netflix is onboard for the reboot, which stars Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton both teased at the end of August. BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Megan Thee Stallion – told People: “I love Taylor Swift, and I would like to collab with her one day,” adding: “She’s a stallion too, she’s a tall girl. I love that. We would be so cute next to each other.” Megan recently worked with Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce and other NFL stars in a Pepsi commercial.
• Doja Cat – Broke her social media silence by sharing an NSFW video of her spinning on a pole. In the clip, she is seen wearing a short gray skirt, sleeveless white top, chunky shoes and glasses, hair pulled back in a clip, as she slowly spins around a pole in the middle of a room while reading a book, with no caption. We’re not quite sure what it all means. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mrxhwudy
• Pearl Jam – During their Chicago show, Eddie Vedder told the crowd he’s going to rewrite ‘Better Man’, after finding out that friends of a friend plan to use the song for the first dance at their wedding. Since the lyrics aren’t appropriate for the occasion, Vedder plans on tweaking them, specifically for the couple. (No kidding: The song is about a woman who settles for a guy, thinking that’s as good as it gets!)
• Janis Joplin — A new biopic about her will star Shailene Woodley. Woodley, who will also produce the film, said in a statement: “California meant so much to Janis Joplin. From the stoops of San Francisco to the wooden walls of Sunset Sound, the state became the stage upon which she explored not just the world of music, but the world of her vibrant humanity.” No title or release date yet.
• Tom Petty – The cult classic film “Tom Petty: Heartbreakers Beach Party” will screen for the first time ever in theaters on Oct. 17 and 20. The movie, Cameron Crowe’s directorial debut, had been “lost” for years, after airing once on MTV, and pirated versions have been sought by fans since. The screenings will feature an introduction from Crowe and 20 minutes of outtakes. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/36f57cdc
• Shaboozey – His crossover hit has now spent 13 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. It also tops the Country Airplay chart for a 7th week. The all-format Hot 100? Yup – still #1 there, too.
• Joe Diffie, Toby Keith & Luke Combs – After the NBC special “Toby Keith: American Icon” highlighted the song ‘Ships That Don’t Come In’, it has debuted at #7 on the Country Digital Song Sales chart. Keith’s last recording appears on “HARDY’s HIXTAPE: Vol. 3 Difftape”, which was released in March.
• Miranda Lambert and Keith Urban – will both perform at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards. Other performers announced for the show, airing on NBC on Sept. 26, are: Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Lady A, Parker McCollum, and The War and Treaty. Shania Twain will host.

SHOOTING THE BULL

WEEKEND SNOOZE IS GOOD NEWS:
If you’re like me, you know that it’s important to your physical and mental health to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night, but you also know that sometimes, that’s impossible. But fortunately, according to a new study, you can catch up on your rest on weekends. Research presented at a recent meeting of the European Society of Cardiology shows how sleeping in on weekends could reduce your risk of heart disease by 20%. The study author, from China’s National Center for Cardiovascular Disease, said that the effect is especially notable among those who regularly do not get enough sleep on weekdays (like…everyone?). And, you’re right: Previous studies have found just the opposite, but being the optimistic type, we’re willing to go with this one!
(No arguments here: I cannot begin to imagine what might happen to my heart if I ever were to extract my butt from the bed before 10 o’clock on a Sunday morning!)
(OK. Now — what about those of us who tend to sleep in on weekDAYS? Asking for an afternoon guy!)

NEW DEVELOPMENTS:
► Researchers at the University of Massachusetts Amherst say they have come up with an innovative way to protect yourself from the sweaty, uncomfortable, even health-endangering experience of being outside during a heat wave: clothes that physically cool down the body. In their quest to develop a cooler fabric, they coated fabric tiles with calcium carbonate – the main component in limestone and chalk. The coating was able to both reflect the sun’s energy back into the atmosphere, and allow the wearer’s natural body heat to escape. During tests in scorching summer heat, they found it reduced the temperature underneath clothes by up to 8°F (4.5°C) compared to the air, and by up to 15° (8.5°C) compared to untreated fabrics. (Can I get some of that stuff for my car seat?)
► Scientists at the California Institute of Technology have unveiled a groundbreaking ‘smart mask’ that doesn’t just protect you from germs, it analyzes your breath, giving you a mini health check. While other smart masks in development focus on physical factors like breath rate or temperature, the EBCare mask, short for “exhaled breath condensate analysis and respiratory evaluation”, dives deeper, examining the very molecules you exhale. Its developers say the potential applications of this technology include things such as the monitoring of chronic conditions like asthma or COPD, tracking metabolic health, or even the detection of early signs of respiratory infections. They say that one day, you could be able to adjust your medication or lifestyle in real time, based on what your breath is telling you, or be aware of and treat an illness before symptoms even appear. (Oh, boy…I can’t wait to hear the conspiracy theories about this one!)

PICKING UP MORE THAN GROCERIES:
With the recent trend toward traditional in-person matchmaking, rather than using dating apps, singles in Spain are finding love with the help of their local supermarket. First popularized on TikTok, of course, those who are looking to meet a special someone have been putting a pineapple upside down in their shopping cart between 7pm and 8pm at stores in the popular supermarket chain Mercadona. Doing so lets other singles know that you’re available — and invites them to bump their cart into yours. Then, later, if both meet in the wine section, it’s a match. The grocery store operators aren’t big fans of the trend, and claim their staff is starting to hide the pineapples for that one-hour period each day. But it’s catching on: Once, police had to be called due to an unruly crowd, and a German supermarket chain has now put the word out to its customers in Spain, inviting them to put a watermelon in their cart, to show they’re available.
(Is this what you might call a “one-night fruit stand”?)
(From what I’ve heard about the connotations of an upside-down pineapple, watermelons are probably a better idea!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Just after Apple’s much-heralded “Glowtime” event on Monday, where the company announced, among other things, the latest iPhone 16, rival Huawei held its own product unveiling. The Chinese tech company announced a $2,800 tri-foldable phone, the new Mate XT. What does ‘tri-foldable’ mean? Users can actually fold the device 3 ways, like an accordion screen door. The Mate XT, with an AI assistant, comes in red and black, and has a 10.2-inch display screen. The company said it is the world’s slimmest foldable phone, and it has a keyboard attachment that fits in your pocket. Huawei has already received more than 4 million pre-orders for the new unit. (…and everyone laughs at me because my wallet folds the same way!) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yk3wt2vh
