NBC Universal, which owns Bravo, has a court injunction to prevent the now-shooting 6th season of hit fashion design show “Project Runway” from hightailing it over to the Lifetime Channel in a proposed deal that’s now likely to be fought out in court (don’t worry, you’ll be able to see it – it’s just a matter of where) . . . Late actor Heath Ledger’s insurer, ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, is being sued by his trustees for refusing to pay out on his $10-million policy because it believes he may have committed suicide – even though the NYC Medical Examiner ruled his death an accidental overdose (our nominee for Weasels of the Year) . . . Actor Daniel Craig says he helped choose the name of the new ‘007’ film, “Quantum of Solace”, taken from an obscure short story by ‘Bond’ creator Ian Fleming because he didn’t want ‘death’, ‘die’, ‘bleed’ or any other grisly terms in the title (or apparently words that people understand) . . . Actress Katie Holmes is doing a cameo on an upcoming episode of “Eli Stone” (ABC), donning a skin-tight leotard and performing a song & dance number (episode airs OCTOBER 14th) . . . British comedian Russell Brand admits he took heroin every day for 11 years until he quit in 2003 after he was told he’d die if he didn’t stop (ah, maybe this explains his bizarre hosting gig at the “MTV Video Music Awards”?) . . . And the latest victim of the global credit crunch may be 82-year-old “Playboy” mogul Hugh Hefner, sources saying he’s being advised to downsize his staff in both NYC & LA or face bankruptcy (and maybe cut back to only 2 ‘house bunnies’ at a time).

• Creedence Clearwater Revival – The classic rockers’ first 6 albums are reissued in expanded versions via Fantasy Records, for which the band recorded until its 1972 breakup.
• “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (ABC/CityTV) – Elvis Costello performs.
• Kellie Pickler – Her self-titled, 2nd album is released. THIS MORNING she promotes it on “Today” (NBC); TOMORROW on “Live With Regis & Kelly” (syndicated/CTV). She’s also featured on the cover of the current issue of “First” magazine.
• “Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” (CBS) – Wrinkle rocker Alice Cooper is on.
• “Tonight Show With Jay Leno” (NBC/A Channel) – “Need U Bad” singer Jazmine Sullivan performs.
BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band – They’ll perform at the “Super Bowl” halftime show FEBRUARY 1st at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa FL. The recent list of artists to fill the gig includes the Rolling Stones, U2, Paul McCartney, Prince and, in 2008, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
• Dave Matthews Band – Dave Matthews is the co-founder of ATO Pictures, producer of the quirky new movie “Choke” about a con artist who pretends he’s choking in restaurants to get sympathy from strangers and then fleece them.
• Duffy – The Welsh singing star says she’s ‘borderline on a breakdown’ as she struggles to deal with the pressures of her meteoric rise to fame. She adds she didn’t expect a successful career in the music industry would bring so much stress and says she feels as if she has ‘sold her soul’. (Actually she’s been selling quite a bit of ‘soul’.)
• Jimmy Wayne – The “Do You Believe Me Now” country chart-topper performed both the pre-game anthem and a halftime show at LAST NIGHT’s “Monday Night Football” game in Pittsburgh (ESPN).
• Keith Urban – As a joke, his infant daughter, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, is ‘engaged’ to actor Russell Crowe’s 2-year-old son, Tennyson. The tongue-in-cheek betrothal happened after Urban’s wife Nicole Kidman mentioned she’s a great believer in arranged marriage during a get-together between the 2 families.
• Led Zeppelin – Robert Plant is shooting down recent reports that he’s agreed to tour with his old band. He says he has no plans to tour with anyone for at least 2 years after finishing his US dates with Alison Krauss on OCTOBER 5th.

• “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” ( Romantic Comedy ): Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars“) plays a TV star who jets off to Hawaii for a vacation with her new boyfriend (UK DJ Russell Brand) only to discover the guy she just dumped (“How I Met Your Mother’s” Jason Segel) has picked the exact same resort to lick his wounds. Produced by Judd Apatow. Available in a ‘3-Disc Unrated Collector’s Edition’ or as part of the ‘Ultimate Unrated Comedy Collection’ that also includes “Knocked Up” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”.
• “Iron Man” ( Action Adventure ): Based on the Marvel Comics character, Robert Downey Jr stars as wealthy philanthropist ‘Tony Stark’, who develops an invulnerable robotic suit to fight the throes of evil. Stan Lee originally based the superhero on legendary reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow & Terrence Howard. Comes in an ‘Ultimate 2-Disc Edition’. Expect sequels; the film’s stars have reportedly all signed 3-picture deals.
• “U2: Live at Red Rocks – Under a Blood Red Sky” (Concert): A new CD/DVD packaging of the 1983 live album on the 25th anniversary of the band’s US invasion. 5 tracks have been added to the DVD that were not on the original VHS version.
• Also released TODAY: “Lewis Black’s Root of All Evil” (TV); “Lou Reed’s Berlin” (Music Documentary); “My Name Is Earl: Season 3” (TV); “Numb3rs: The Complete 4th Season” (TV); and “Popeye the Sailor: 1941-43, Volume 3” (Animation).

The CRTC has finally put together a system to register your phone number on a ‘National Do Not Call List’ so telemarketers can no longer contact you (except charities and those companies you already have accounts with). If they do, there is a hefty fine. Online registration begins TODAY. Interestingly, it’s Bell Canada (one of the worst telemarketing offenders) that’s been awarded a 5-year contract to operate the ‘DNCL’. And Ma Bell will be making money on it: they’re charging companies an annual fee of $11,280 for access to the Canada-wide list. Presumably, telemarketers will be willing to ante up in order to determine all the numbers NOT listed.

Christopher Brosius, owner of NYC’s ‘CB I Hate Perfume Gallery’, believes that great fragrances are unimposing, genderless, and should harmonize with a person’s natural odor. Among his unusual scents: ‘In the Library’ and ‘Wet Pavement’. He even custom creates fragrances for customers based on their requests. One client asked for the scent that wafts from her air conditioner after it’s been out of use all winter. After some experimenting, Brosius uncovered the aroma the woman found so appealing … mildew.

A team of economists from the US & the UK have determined that having a good love life is worth about $50,000-a-year to the average person. Being married, on the other hand, brings in about $100,000-worth of happiness. The stats have been calculated based on the monetary value some 100,000 interview subjects placed on various aspects of their lives. Dartmouth College economist David Blanchflower confirms an extra $50,000 in yearly income is the average amount respondents think they’d need to equal the contentment they receive from their sex lives. (On the other had, [co-host] is only holding out for a quarter.)

HELLO, DEER:
A new camouflage called ‘Optifade’ that purportedly makes hunters invisible to deer is being marketed THIS FALL. It’s touted as the first scientifically designed concealment technology for deceiving deer. Decades of research into ungulate (hoofed mammal) vision have revealed that, in general, deer have 20/40 vision, red-green color blindness, a 270-degree field of view, difficulty seeing orange, and greater sensitivity to light at the blue end of the spectrum. All of these factors were used to create computer-generated camo patterns. (Considering the number of hunters that accidentally get shot, apparently humans have trouble seeing orange as well.)
