BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ The Queen’s funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on Mon. Sept. 19, it has been announced. The state funeral for Her Majesty will start at 11am (6am EDT) at the church in central London. The Queen’s oak coffin was taken from Balmoral Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh yesterday, on a slow 6-hour journey by hearse, to allow mourners gathered in the towns and villages to pay their respects. Today, the coffin will be transferred in procession to St Giles’s Cathedral where it will lie at rest until Tuesday, before being taken via RAF plane to London. Beginning Wednesday, the Queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall for “4 clear days”, and the public will be able to file past to see the late monarch’s coffin.

★ Two days after his mother’s death, King Charles III was officially proclaimed Britain’s monarch Saturday in a pomp-filled ceremony steeped in ancient tradition and political symbolism — and, for the first time, broadcast live on TV and online. Surprisingly, Kate Middleton and Prince William — the new Prince and Princess of Wales — stepped out for their first outing together since receiving their new titles, accompanied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The foursome took an emotional tour of the tributes to the late Queen and greeted well-wishers at Windsor Castle, before leaving in the same car, driven by William. William thought the walkabout to greet the crowds “was an important show of unity at an incredibly difficult time for the family,” according to a royal source.

★ Josh Duhamel has seemingly said “I do” to his fiancee, Audra Mari. The “Transformers” star and former beauty pageant competitor reportedly tied the knot during a scenic rooftop ceremony at the Jasper Hotel in Fargo ND. After their nuptials, the newlyweds are said to have stopped by a bar called Duffy’s Tavern, to ring in the celebrations with a few shots. The bar uploaded photos of the bride and groom in a tuxedo and full wedding dress onto its Facebook page. LINK: https://www.facebook.com/duffysfargo

★ (***Caution: ‘Ass’***) The king of adventure is back. “Indiana Jones 5” showed its first trailer on Saturday during the D23 Expo. Although it was not released online, Harrison Ford appeared onstage to speak about the clip, joined by director James Mangold and co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Looking emotional, Ford said to the crowd: “Thank you for making these films such an incredible experience for all of us. I’m very proud to say to say that this one is fantastic.” Then, pointing at Waller-Bridge, he said: “And this is one of the reasons.” The 80-year-old also insinuated that this will be his final turn as the action hero, but assured the audience: “We have a really great story to tell, as well as a movie that will kick your ass.” Indiana Jones 5 is scheduled for release on June 30, 2023.

SHOOTING THE BULL

HOT UNDER THE COLLAR – AND EVERYWHERE ELSE:
It should come as no surprise that in recent years, the problem of online harassment and hate have increased exponentially. Why? Many people blame things like increased political polarization, bigotry, and income inequality, but researchers say they’ve have found another factor that may be to blame: the weather. A new study from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research found that people behave more aggressively online when the temperature gets too hot or too cold. They analyzed more than 4 billion tweets posted in the US between 2014-20, and compared them with historical climate data, concluding that extreme weather fuels mean tweets – especially extreme heat. They actually found a “sweet spot” where aggressive online activity levels off. The “feel-good” window occurs when the temperature is 12–21°C (54–70°F). Online hate was found to increase up to 12% for colder temperatures and up to 22% for hotter temperatures. Oh, and by the way, the researchers found that staying indoors on hot or cold days doesn’t help curb mean tweets.
(But it does make the neighbors happy!)

NEW TO YOU (AND I!):
⇒ A Swiss company is launching a coffeemaking system that you’ve probably never heard of before. Designed to replace capsules that produce thousands of tons of waste each year, Migros has announced “coffee balls”, spherical capsules that are fully compostable, unlike the plastic and aluminum containers popularized by other companies, like K-Cups. Migros says its coffee balls are encased in a thin, flavorless, seaweed-based cover that can be discarded with the spent coffee after use. The company said the CoffeeB system, which also features a special coffeemaker, will be ‘rolled out’ in Switzerland and France this year. (Pardon the pun…)
⇒ Kellogg’s latest cereal is ready to eat – just add…water?) The company’s new “Instabowls” look like traditional single-serve bowls — small tubs of cereal, made to be eaten dry or with milk. But they also contain milk powder. Add some cold water and stir, the milk rehydrates, and voila! Instant milk and cereal. The bowls come in 4 types: Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran Crunch, Froot Loops and Apple Jacks, for US $1.98 each. (Which, judging by the cost of milk these days, is a pretty good deal!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:
➢ A new technique that destroys cancer using sound waves also spurs the immune system to kill off any remaining tumors. The non-invasive treatment developed by the University of Michigan only needs to be partially effective to stop cancer from spreading. The treatment, called histotripsy, noninvasively focuses ultrasound waves to mechanically destroy target tissue with millimeter precision. In many cases, the entirety of a cancerous tumor cannot be targeted directly due to mass, size, location or stage, but researchers investigated the effects of partially destroying tumors with sound to 50-75% and found the technique was still very effective. They showed that in 80% of cases the immune system broke down the rest of the tumor, and it did not return. It is currently being tested on humans following successful trials in rats.
➢ A woman who nearly died after a miscarriage has welcomed a baby girl after 20 years of trying to conceive. 37-year-old Rebecca Dando of Wales, had always dreamed of being a mom but thought it wouldn’t happen after she was rushed to hospital when she hemorrhaged due to a miscarriage in 2021. She suffered multiple miscarriages from the age of 18, but after meeting her partner, Christopher Thomas, in 2019, she decided to try for a baby again. After no luck for a year, she was surprised to find she was expecting in September 2021, and Lowri Joan Dando was born on May 23, weighing 7lb 6oz, via emergency c-section. Rebecca says she’s loving every minute” of being a mom.

DID YOU KNOW?
A James Bond-themed superyacht named 007 has sunk. The 160-foot vessel ran aground off the Greek island of Kythnos on Sept. 2. Five people onboard were rescued by Coast Guard. The luxury yacht, which has a helipad, was seen lying semi-submerged on its side about 49 feet from Kolona Beach. According to a local boat owner, the captain had “some depth problem and he hit the bottom”. The 007, which has 5 cabins, is now the subject of a local investigation. The owner is not known.
