BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ It’s a beautiful day to be Tom Hanks. The Hollywood Foreign Press has announced that he will receive the Cecil B. deMille Award at the 77th annual Golden Globes in January. The award recognizes an individual who has made a lasting impact on the film industry. Hanks, a fifteen-time Globes nominee, will next be seen portraying Mister Rodgers in the awards-buzzy “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” He is already favored to pick up an Oscar nomination for supporting actor.

★ Kit Harington says he still hasn’t seen the final season of “Game Of Thrones”. The hit HBO series scooped the Outstanding Drama Series prize at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. Speaking to press alongside his co-stars after they collected the award, Harrington was asked about the controversy surrounding the fantasy drama’s final season. His answer: “I still haven’t seen the show. So that’s how I dealt with that controversy.”

★ Oprah Winfrey made a guest appearance on “CBS This Morning” on Monday to announce her pick for her re-activated book club: “The Water Dancer” by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Her interview with Coates will stream on Apple TV+ when the subscription service launches on November 1, under the title “Oprah’s Book Club”. New episodes will appear every other month. Years ago, when Winfrey hosted her TV show and introduced her book club, the effect on book sales was dramatic.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Jessie J – sang a sweet new love song about her boyfriend, Channing Tatum during her show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on Sunday. Partial lyrics: “just stay calm, so we’re not rushing what we are / Pressure on, just have fun / It’s not a race, no need to run / If it’s forever / Let’s just simply be in love.” The couple began dating late last year.
• Miley Cyrus – A source told “People” that the 26-year-old broke up with Kaitlynn Carter last week after less than two months of dating, because she wants to “focus on her career” Cyrus’ split from the 31-year-old reality star comes after her high-profile break up with husband Liam Hemsworth.
• 50 Cent – bought his 7-year-old son a $50,000 chain for his birthday. Fiddy shared a picture of the unbelievable gift on Instagram over the weekend. The chain spells out his son’s name “Sire” and is packed with diamonds.
• Mariah Carey — will celebrate the 25th anniversary of her landmark holiday album “Merry Christmas” with a deluxe reissue out November 1st. The new edition will feature several rare remixes, a new version of ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’, and previously-unreleased live tracks from her 1994 performance at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
• Madonna — is reportedly set to quit her life in Lisbon, after publicly revealing she’s “bored and lonely” in the Portuguese city. At the opening night of her Madame X Tour in New York last week, she told the crowd: “I thought it would be adventurous. But I found myself alone, without friends, a little bit bored.”
• Led Zeppelin — Jimmy Page says he is planning to tell his life story. In an interview, he said: “I will definitely do an autobiography…I have a number of ways I plan to approach it. But I am determined that I’ll write it first and then go to a publisher, because I don’t want to be held to a deadline.”
• KISS, Iron Maiden and System Of A Down – will co-headline Download Festival 2020. It returns to Donington Park in England with each act taking top billing across the three days. Other acts already confirmed for the June 12-14 festival include: Deftones, The Offspring, KoRn, Disturbed, Alestorm, Gojira, Black Veil Brides, Of Mice and Men and Daughtry.
• Kelsea Ballerini — wants to get ”weird” on one of the songs on her next album. She’s planning to release her follow-up to 2017’s “Unapologetically” next spring, and says that while the ”first 10” tracks will be ”mainstream”, she wants to create a song that would never get played on radio and ”play” around with her style.
• Sam Hunt — debuted a brand-new song during his Calgary concert last week. The ballad is called ‘Sinning With You’. His sophomore album is a hotly anticipated project, especially because it’s been nearly five years since he released his critically acclaimed debut, “Montevallo”.
A CAT’S LIFE:
It turns out that man’s best friend has some competition. Scientists say they’ve proven that cats form strong bonds with people just like dogs do…they’re just often too aloof to show it. The team from Oregon State University says that people have been “underestimating cats’ socio-cognitive abilities”. Their testing of 100 cats and their human owners showed that cats “share social traits once attributed to dogs and humans.” What they found was that “Like dogs, the majority of cats are securely attached to their owner and use them as a source of security in a novel environment.” Researchers pointed out that people often have “biased” ideas on cats because a minority of them tend to run and hide or act aloof.
(Until you rattle the “treats” container!)
(They sure don’t act aloof at breakfast time on a Sunday morning!)
(Anyone with a cat could have told you that they form a strong bond with their human…but only when they feel like it!)

RESTART ME UP:
Everyone, it seems, has got a smartphone. And we all shell out a tidy sum of money to get one, to access the internet, and for all those accessories that we just HAVE to get. So, if you could make your phone last a little longer, wouldn’t you like to know how? Experts seem to agree that in order to help your smartphone continue to perform well as it gets older, you should restart it once per week. A full restart. That involves shutting it off, letting it rest for a full minute, and then firing it back up. Doing so provides many benefits to your phone, including preventing crashes, retaining memory, prolonging battery life, and making the operating system run more smoothly in general.
(I’m good. I already have to restart my phone at least once per DAY!)
(Which is great until you realize you have no idea what the passcode is anymore!)
(But what if I DON’T want my phone to last longer so I can get a new one…said my daughter, who obviously doesn’t pay her own phone bill….)

SURPRISING WAYS YOU’RE DAMAGING YOUR BODY:
☞ Wireless earbuds: Given how AirPods and similar devices fit snugly into the ear, they can increase the probability of infections in the ear canal and of impacted earwax. (Plus, that whole ‘going deaf’ thing…)
☞ Reheating pizza in the microwave: Nuking leftover pizza heats the crust to a temperature that changes the carbs in the dough to polymers called ‘advanced glycation end products’ that are hard for the body to eliminate. (Maybe the best plan is to “eliminate” that pizza the night before?)
☞ Sitting by the window on a plane: The UVB radiation most associated with sunburn is blocked by the windows, but UVA radiation is not. Because you are much closer to the ozone layer, the sun’s rays are much more harmful.
☞ Drinking bottled water: When you do, you are ingesting microplastics from the bottle and cap. Studies estimate the average person consumes up to 100,000 plastic particles a year from bottled water and other foods packed in plastic. (I’ve always wanted to be able to say that I’m ‘plastic-lined’…)
☞ Stuff in your back pocket: A thick wallet or large smartphone that is constantly carried in the back pocket of pants and repeatedly sat upon has been reported as a source of chronic low back pain. (Not great for the phone, either…)
☞ Wearing high heels every day: They put the foot at an angle and pull muscles and joints out of alignment, so the effects aren’t limited to the feet. It’s not unusual for people who spend lots of time in high heels to have low back, neck, and shoulder pain because the shoes disrupt the natural form of the body.
☞ Not wearing socks: This causes excessive sweating which, in turn, causes the formation of blisters, and the development of foot and nail fungus. (Which may or may not look better than boat shoes with socks…!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Lexus has unveiled its latest model. Although it is targeted at the traditional affluent Lexus customer, you won’t find this model in the driveway. The LY650 is a 65-foot yacht. It features three staterooms and sleeps six, and is powered by two 900 horsepower diesel engines. Price tag? We’re not sure yet, but it is expected to sell for about $3 million.
(If you have to ask…)
