BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Ethan Hawke wasn’t missing his “Wildcat” premiere at the Toronto International Film Fest for anything. He walked the TIFF red carpet on Monday with his daughter, “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke. When asked if it was true that he had to jump on a Greyhound bus to make it to the premiere, Maya said: “He did! Everyone’s talking about it!” Ethan gave a few more details, explaining that after 3 flights were canceled, he said to himself: “‘I’m not gonna miss this because of some airport.’ So, I went to port authority and hopped the bus.” And was he bothered by fans? Hawke said he “just disappeared in the back” of the bus and read a book.

★ Drew Barrymore was “completely unaware” that 2 fans were removed from a taping of her show for wearing WGA pins, according to a report. Their removal was blamed on “heightened security concerns.” A spokesperson for the show said: “We regret that 2 audience members were not permitted to attend or were not allowed access. Drew was completely unaware of the incident and we are in the process of reaching out to the affected audience members to offer them new tickets.” As The Drew Barrymore Show resumed filming on Monday, production was met with 3 pickets around CBS Broadcast Center. The crew member who removed the audience members was described as “aggressive,” and “yelling”.

★ Academy Award nominee Rachel McAdams will make her Broadway debut next year. The “Notebook” and “Mean Girls” actress will star in the Broadway premiere of Amy Herzog’s “Mary Jane”. The play follows the story of “a single mother in an impossible family situation,” according to the show’s producers. “Mary Jane relies on unflagging optimism and humor, along with the wisdom of the women around her who have become a makeshift family, to take on each new day.” Previews begin April 2 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

★ Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw have donated $1.5 million in support of striking writers and actors, and others affected by the work stoppages. The funds, dispersed since the WGA went on strike in May, have been used to keep entertainment industry workers afloat, covering basic living expenses, mental heath support and more. Other notables who have written sizable checks to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation include Seth MacFarlane, George and Amal Clooney, Luciana and Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness, Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Julia Roberts, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Meryl Streep and Oprah Winfrey.

★ The famous “Brady Bunch” house is finally off the market. HGTV, which had been trying to sell the North Hollywood property throughout the summer, has made a deal for a cool $3.2 million. The new title owner — wealthy home collector Tina Trahan – saved a fortune off the home’s original listed price of $5.5 million. HGTV listed the home in May – after buying it in 2018 for the series, “A Very Brady Renovation.”

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Ed Sheeran — left a bride and groom speechless after he crashed their wedding — and performed a song. Accompanied by background singers, he popped into a Las Vegas wedding chapel right before the couple said “I do,” and sang ‘Magical’ from his upcoming album “Autumn Variations”, including the words: “Is this how it feels to be in love? This is magical”. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5n7mmhww
• Selena Gomez — could hardly “Calm Down” after her Rema collab hit 1 billion Spotify streams. She posted news of the accomplishment, and wrote: “I’m so grateful. Love you @heisrema!” It’s the first time an African artist-led song has reached that milestone. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4fcz3xwj
• Amy Winehouse – Her original band has announced a special concert in London, to celebrate the late singer’s 40th birthday. The Dec. 22 gig will be led by her long-term musical director and bass player Dale Davis – who is working as a music consultant on the upcoming biopic “Back to Black”.
• Cher – has announced her first-ever holiday album. She shared the festive news on Instagram, posting possible album art work, and writing: “Are you spending Christmas with me?”. Cher then shared an alternative album cover, writing, “Christmas already? But I’ve got nothing to wear…” No release date yet. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/mskwurnx
• Alice Cooper – When asked how long he thinks he can keep touring, the 75-year-old said: “I would not wanna play Alice Cooper if I didn’t look (and sound) like Alice, the same way I looked like Alice in the ’70s.” He also said: “I could have retired 30 years ago, but, man, that’s no fun. I wanna be up there on stage playing Alice.”
• Jimmy Buffet – His 1985 best-of collection “Songs You Know by Heart: Jimmy Buffett’s Greatest Hit(s)” has re-entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at #4 in wake of his death on Sept. 1. The album peaked at #100 upon its release.
• Maddie & Tae — Maddie Font is a mom! She and husband Jonah welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Forrest Henry, on Sept. 9. She posted that she had a “really scary” experience leading up to his arrival, including “37 hours of labor” and an emergency C-section. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/wrdbr5yh
• Dustin Lynch – will release his new album “Killed the Cowboy” on Sept. 29, and says he made it “to embrace the single people of the world (like himself)…to let them know that you don’t have to live a ‘normal’ life to still be happy in your own skin.” The album includes the rocker ‘Chevrolet’ ft. Jelly Roll.
• Zach Bryan — Not even a run-in with the law can stop him. His self-titled album has scored a second week at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Bryan’s album is also being categorized as Americana/folk and rock on Billboard’s other charts, and is the first “rock” album to spend its first 2 weeks on top of the Billboard 200 since the “Suicide Squad” soundtrack 7 years ago.
SHOOTING THE BULL
CHATBOSS:
It sounds weird – but with the way things are going, should we really be surprised? Researchers from Kühne Logistics University in Germany say that some day, an AI bot could be your boss. They say that digital technologies have proven an essential part of effective leadership, and the idea isn’t about replacing human leadership entirely (at least for now…), but using the advantages of AI to assist in leadership roles, from strategic decision-making to analyzing employee behavior. But there’s an even more advanced phase further down the road: One where AI doesn’t just aid human bosses – it substitutes for human leadership. The researchers feel it’s unlikely that the AI leader of the future will be a simple chatbot. They envision an advanced system equipped with natural speech, akin to Siri or Alexa. It would possibly appear as a human-like avatar through VR technology.
(Well, I have to admit, it would be nice to have a boss that I could unplug whenever I wanted to!)
(Sure! Why not? Let’s make the computers our boss! Why does it seem like half the world is afraid of AI taking over – and the other half is trying to make it happen??)

NFXL:
Here’s a little something to think about as you get set for Wednesday Night Football (that’s a thing, isn’t it?): According to a new study, some football players (especially wide receivers) wear lower jersey numbers . . . in order to appear thinner and quicker. The study helps confirm this long-standing belief about how athletes choose their uniform numbers. In 2019, ESPN looked into why many NFL wide receivers opted for jersey numbers between 10 and 19. Their investigation found that many players felt that lower numbers made them appear to run faster than higher numbers typically given to players in their position — starting in the 80s. In the new study, by UCLA researchers, participants consistently felt that players wearing jerseys numbered 10-19 appeared slimmer than those wearing 80-89, even when the body sizes were identical. The senior author explained: “In our daily lives, numbers written on objects — on a bag of sugar in the supermarket or weights in the gym — usually represent the magnitude of the objects. The higher the number, the bigger or more massive the object generally is.”
(‘Scuse me while I paint a ‘number 11’ on my belt…!)
(If that were true, the players who WANT to look big, the defensive tackles – would be asking for THREE-digit numbers!)

YOGURTA BE KIDDING ME:
Sounds like a great job: Yogurt maker Chobani is looking for someone to write dairy puns for its CEO’s tweets and LinkedIn posts – and is willing to pay an annual salary of $187,000-$278,000 to some lucky creative writer. Chobani posted on its website and on LinkedIn that it is looking for an executive writer to work directly with the CEO. For those who are still listening – and haven’t already started crafting their very best cover letter (filled with puns about “milking it for all it’s worth…), the job has a few stringent requirements: Applicants must have at least 15 years of experience working in food, the packaged goods industry or politics, and anyone who applies must have strong writing skills – and an extensive portfolio of published work. Duties include — among other things — writing and editing speeches for CEO Hamdi Ulukaya when he attends high-profile events, and crafting a messaging strategy for Chobani. [***UPDATE: The position, like a container of yogurt, has now been filled***]
(I’m not sure I can write about yogurt, but for that kind of money, I have a gut feeling I’d be berry, berry good at it! Aaaaand dairy goes again.)
(They’re looking for a fro yo pro, yo!)

DID YOU KNOW?
A new study says a man’s neck size affects others’ perception of his parenting skills. Huh? You heard right: Researchers from the University of Arkansas asked 305 male and female participants to look at 4 computer-generated images of the same man — everything remained the same except for his neck muscles. They rated the pictures from 1-7 based on their perception of the man as a good fighter, interest in long- and short-term mating, and effectiveness at protecting and nurturing offspring. The men with visibly larger neck muscles were perceived as more protective of offspring, but less nurturing and less interested in long-term relationships. (Also, more likely to drive a truck with a loud muffler!)

BS CHRONOMETER 09.13.23
TODAY’S BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “Defy Superstition Day”, a day to stare down your superstitions. So, walk under a ladder, break a mirror, let a black cat cross your path, open an umbrella indoors, and do all those other things that many think are bad luck. (Although I think it’s bad luck to believe in superstitions…)
• “Fortune Cookie Day”, celebrating the tasty little treat with a slip of paper inside that brings you good luck, a whimsical saying, or a philosophical thought. It’s thought they were invented in San Francisco around 1914 (How ‘fortunate’ that it’s also “Defy Superstition Day”!)
• “International Chocolate Day”, celebrating ‘the greatest substance known to humanity’. It’s a day for indulgence that should be free of guilt (until you get on the scale tomorrow morning)
• “Peanut Day”, They’re are not really nuts at all, but ‘legumes’ (edible seeds enclosed in pods). Legumes provide the best source of concentrated protein in the plant kingdom (and how perfect is it that it’s also Chocolate Day?)
• “Bald is Beautiful Day”, a day that we can stop hiding and finally start celebrating the thing that haunts many of us. Today, being bald is beautiful. There will be no hats, crooked toupees, or cover ups of any sort. Let it shine!
• “Positive Thinking Day”. It’s all about attitude … a positive attitude. (And I’m positive this is never gonna fly…)
• “Roald Dahl Day”, He’s best-known as a beloved storyteller. In books like “Matilda”, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, and “James and the Giant Peach”, Dahl brought readers into his wildly original imagination with richly detailed worlds, zany characters, and touching storylines.
• “Snack a Pickle Day”, there are many types of pickles to try:
– Bread and butter—part of sweet family of pickles; has onions and bell peppers; sometimes have a waffle-esque shape.
– Cinnamon – bright red and flavored with cinnamon; sometimes a Christmas treat.
– Dill – made with dill herbs or dill oil.
– Gherkins – smaller and usually sweeter.
– Kool-aid – soaked in Kool-aid and pickle brine.
– Kosher dill – dill pickle with lots of garlic in the salt brine.
– Polish – somewhere between kosher dill and sour.
– Sour – fermented longer in brine, which makes them more sour.
– Sweet – usually made with vinegar, spices, and sugar; includes sliced sweet pickles, or “cross cuts”, which are cut crosswise into chips.
