Ah, Some BS You Actually Look Forward To In the Morning!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Prince Harry got to wear his military uniform after all, as he and his family paid their respects to Queen Elizabeth II — a change that reportedly came from King Charles himself. Harry was in a full armed forces getup Saturday, alongside his brother Prince William — also in uniform — as well as 6 more of the Queen’s grandchildren. You’ll recall Harry was in civilian clothes earlier in the week while they were taking his grandmother’s casket to lie in state, while Will was in uniform. But it wasn’t all good news for Harry in the lead-up to today’s royal funeral. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not allowed to join other members of the royal family at a Buckingham Palace reception for world leaders. While Harry and Meghan were initially invited to the Sunday event, the palace then decided reception is “for working members of the royal family.”
-TMZ, People
★ Leo DiCaprio has been given the invite to join the cast of “Squid Game”. At a media conference celebrating the Netflix show’s Emmy wins, director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that the upcoming season will again be set in Korea, and although “there will be no known Hollywood actor in season 2,” that could change in the future. And if it does, “maybe in season 3”, Dong-hyuk has someone in mind.  Quote: “Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of Squid Game. So maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games.”
-Blast
★ Dave Chappelle may have been in more danger than initially suspected when he was assaulted at a May Hollywood Bowl appearance. A roommate of the attacker testified on Friday that Isaiah Lee had used the same replica handgun with a hidden blade to stab him in the abdomen. Roommate Dijon Washington said Lee grew increasingly erratic in the months before Chappelle was attacked. Things escalated on Dec. 2 when Lee stabbed his roommate after a perceived insult. A judge ruled there is sufficient evidence to try Lee for the attempted murder of Washington.

★ Pat Sajak appears to be ready for his last spin on “Wheel of Fortune”. The 75-year-old said to Entertainment Tonight”: “In most television shows by this time, you would have said, ‘That’s probably enough,’ but this show will not die.” Wheel of Fortune began in 1975, and Sajak came on board in 1981. In his 4-decade tenure, Sajak and co-host Vanna White have become the faces of the game show. Looking ahead, Sajak said, ” We’re getting near the end. It’s been a long [time]. We’re not gonna do this for another 40 years.”

It includes a cover of Cheap Trick’s ‘Surrender’.
• Sinead O’Connor – The documentary “Nothing Compares” will hit theaters this Friday, and will be available on Showtime Sept. 30. It covers OʼConnorʼs rise to fame and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom, before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream. • Foo Fighters – will release “The Essential Foo Fighters” on Oct. 28. It features a slightly different track listing from 2009’s “Greatest Hits”, including ‘Cold Day in the Sun’, a song written and sung by late drummer Taylor Hawkins, which appeared in 2005’s “In Your Honor and was an energetic staple of the band’s live show.
• Living Colour — On the heels of their performance at Rock In Rio with former Whitesnake guitarist Steve Vai, they’ve re-recorded their classic ‘Cult Of Personality’ with him. The song, out now, was their finale at Rio, with over 100,000 in attendance. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3r5exyda

SHOOTING THE BULL

DO NOTHING – AND GET STUFF DONE:
It’s Monday. Again. And if you’re once again dreading the thought of dragging yourself through another workweek with no possible way of accomplishing all the tasks on your “must do” list, here’s something to consider: Being your most productive self doesn’t necessarily mean doing more, according to a new book. Celeste Headlee, a journalist, radio host and author of “Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing and Underliving,” says that there’s only so much you can schedule into a busy day, and trying to work more ends up being counterproductive…to the point that “Doing nothing at all is actually going to help you produce more.” To NOT reach that point, she suggests avoiding unnecessary screen time, which allows the brain to rest, adding to your productivity later. And that includes minimizing use of social media, which she calls “addictive and exhausting”.
(But social media is exactly how I “do nothing”!)
(And I thought the boss was the only one around here who can do nothing, and stuff still gets done!)

JUNK FOOD JUNK:
⇒ Ever wondered why potato chip packages seem like they’re full of air? Well, wonder no more. TikToker @sherifelsahly posted an informative video, explaining that chip bags actually contain nitrogen, which is designed to help protect the precious snacks from getting crushed, while also retaining freshness. The website for the brand Walkers backs that up, stating: “There is a very good reason for the packets not being filled right to the top. Crisps are very fragile and can get crushed very easily. To try and prevent this from happening, we put air in the packs before they are sealed to act as a cushion for the product during transit. This does mean that the packets have to be a bit bigger than the contents.” (Does it ever work?) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4vf5juaz
⇒ You’re probably aware that, because of the Queen’s death, the currency used by many countries will require a re-design, swapping out the former monarch’s face for King Charles’. Well, it seems ketchup bottles will require a change as well. If you have a look at Heinz ketchup bottles sold in the UK, you’ll see an image of the royal coat of arms at the top. In order to feature this symbol, brands need to be granted a Royal Warrant document. This works in exchange for supplying goods and services to the royals. The warrants became void when the Queen died – and brands like Heinz that use the distinctive symbol will have to remove them and make sure the new branding applies to King Charles III. Manufactures need to prove their products are used by royal households to achieve a new warrant. (Royal pain, that is!)

NEW GOOD NEWS:

➢ Outdoor equipment retailer Patagonia is going all-in to fight climate change. The private Ventura, California company has announced that founder Yvan Chouinard and family will transfer their entire ownership stake into 2 newly created entities. The biggest share of the company — or 98% of Patagonia’s stock — will now be under the Holdfast Collective, a non-profit which will ensure that the company’s profits, about $100 million per year, will be used to “protect nature and biodiversity, support thriving communities and fight the environmental crisis.” The remaining 2% will fund a trust to create a legal structure so that the company can never deviate from Chouinard’s vision: That a for-profit business can work for the planet.
➢ Without the help of a football team, several parents, and a few Cub Scouts, Todd Hagan would still be stuck at home — due to a destroyed wooden bridge. Hagan lives in Switzerland County, Indiana, and on Sept. 3, flash flooding caused by heavy rains completely demolished the bridge, his only connection to a main road. When his grandson’s football coach, Ryan Jesop, learned about it, he started calling his players to see if they could help rebuild the bridge. About 30 people showed up the next day. The crew removed and replaced the wooden planks of the 60-foot bridge in less than 3 hours. Hagan, who wrote everyone who helped a thank you card and made a donation to the team, said it was “just amazing” to see so many people come together, adding, “I couldn’t be more thankful.” (We could use these people to work on some roads around here!)

JOB INTERVIEW GREEN-FLAGS:
We’ve all heard of job interview “red flags”. Recently, the BuzzFeed Community was asked to reveal their job interview GREEN flags — little hints that a job is going to treat you right…
✓ “If they greet the receptionist when they come to retrieve me, that’s a green flag. That tells me that they’re relaxed enough to take the time to say hi to people, and I’m not dealing with a jerk who’s trying to impress me with how important they are.”
✓ “When they ask you questions about yourself (Interests, hobbies, etc.) It shows they are interested in learning how you will fit into the team, and that they aren’t interested in someone who eats, breathes, and sleeps work 24/7.”
✓ “If they ask what you do for self-care. It’s a signal they see work/life balance as important and want you to be self-aware about your mental health.”
✓ “When you ask the interviewers something about the business, like their culture, sustainability, values etc, and they answer with genuine passion about the company.”
✓ “A green flag for me is when the interview feels more like a conversation than a checklist of questions that could have ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers.
✓ “It’s a major green flag if the interviewer volunteers to give you a tour of the space. If it’s a great job, they’ll show you around and let it speak for itself…Plus, you’ll be able to get a feel for the environment.”
✓ “My favorite interview question is to ask how they managed and helped employees during the pandemic. If they struggle to answer or aren’t specific, then run.”
✓ “If you’re being interviewed by more than one person, how the interviewers interact with each other is so telling. If they genuinely seem to get on well, it’s probably a good environment.” (Or good actors!)

DID YOU KNOW?
It would appear that men are much more superstitious than women — especially when it comes to money. A study from Erasmus University in Netherlands found men – even those who claim to be non-believers — are much more likely to take financial risks or gamble after receiving a positive reading from a fortune teller.
