BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Texas native Jamie Foxx has announced on Instagram that there will be a telethon on Sept. 12 to raise money for those in need. Fox wrote that he “Just wanted to let everyone in Texas know, we got you,” and added that he’s donated $25,000 to GlobalGiving, a non-profit organization that provides a global crowdfunding platform for grassroots charitable projects. More details will be released in the coming days, but as Foxx put it, they will “raise as much money as we can for everybody down there.” Foxx plans to co-host the event.

★ Reese Witherspoon is set to guest star in an episode of ‘The Mindy Project’s’ final season. Witherspoon will appear in episode seven of the Hulu series’ final season, which premieres on September 12.

★ Blake Lively used to send photos of a doll to Leonardo Dicaprio. The ‘Gossip Girl’ star dated Leo for a few months in 2011 and the show’s executive producer Joshua Safran says that Lively had a bizarre way of communicating with her then-boyfriend. He reports that she had a doll that she took photos of that she sent to Dicaprio. According to Safran, Blake was “way ahead of the curve. It was pre-Instagram. She was documenting her life in photographs in a way that people were not yet doing.”

★ Leah Remini’s latest claim in her fight against Scientology is that the church pressured her to convert her longtime co-star Kevin James. Remini said to People that Scientology reps would always ask “Why is he not in? Why have you not promoted it to him?” She says that they let it go after a while, but she was expected to recruit, “especially with somebody you work with for nine years”.

APPLE COOK BOOKS:
Earlier this year, Apple blew everyone’s minds when it was announced the company will probably become the first in the United States to reach a net worth of $1 trillion. Oh, and Apple is worth over $160 billion more than Google, the second most valuable company in America. So things are going well. Well enough that as part of his compensation package, CEO Tim Cook was just handed an additional 560,000 Apple (APPL) shares. At current rates, that makes his latest bonus worth $89,191,200, just shy of $90 million. Yup…a BONUS of nearly $90 million. According to Fortune, Tim Cook was given this bonus because APPL shares “outperformed at least two-thirds of businesses in the S&P 500 Index over three years”. BTW, his salary is listed at $3 million, but most years his bonus brings things up near $10 million. It’s been a good year for Apple…and for Cook!

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “September”. In Latin ‘septem’ means ‘seventh’. That’s because back in the day when the New Year started in March, September was in fact the 7th month.
• “First Day of Spring” in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, so designated by tradition, not any relation to the Vernal Equinox.
• “No Rhyme Nor Reason Day”, a celebration of words that don’t rhyme with any other words (aka refractory rhymes), ie: angel, month, orange, purple, silver.
• “Building Code Staff Appreciation Day”. It’s like “Valentine’s Day” for planning board workers.
• “Lazy Moms Day”, the day when all moms everywhere should make an effort to relax… and feel good about it!
SATURDAY-
• “Pierce Your Ears Day”. At what age is it acceptable for a little twerp to have hers (his) done?
• “Blueberry Popsicle Day”, a celebration of the flavor that leaves your lips and tongue looking like some kind of purple-fleshed alien.
• “International Bacon Day”, the 16th annual on the Saturday before Labor Day that involves creating dishes containing bacon, including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, desserts, and drinks.
• “World Testicle Cooking Championship” (aka “Ballscup”), a 14th annual 3-day weekend event in Rudnik, Serbia. The festival serves up a variety of testicles, including wildlife. Yummy.
• “World Championship Barbecue Goat Cook-Off” in Brady TX. It’s the 44th annual, featuring some 125 teams trying to get your goat … to taste good.
SUNDAY-
• “Welsh Rarebit Day”, saluting the traditional dish that, explained simply, is melted cheese on bread. But anyone who’s had it knows it’s far more exotic than that, incorporating butter, flour, cheddar, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, and – optionally – beer.
• “Skyscraper Appreciation Day”, an annual day of appreciation of big buildings observed on the birth date of architect William Can Alen, designer of NYC’s iconic Chrysler Building.
• “US Bowling League Day”, primarily an outdoor sport until around 1840, bowling was called the game of ninepins and popular with gamblers.
MONDAY-
• “Labour Day” in Canada (“Labor Day” in the U.S.), celebrated on the first Monday of September. It originally gave workers the chance to celebrate their achievements in the workplace, specifically the eight-hour day movement, and to campaign for better working conditions or pay. The day is considered the unofficial end of summer, with summer vacations ending and students returning to school around Labour Day.
