★ Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Sofia Vergara have been named Highest Paid TV Actresses in a new “Forbes” list. “The Big Bang Theory” and “Modern Family” stars have snagged an estimated $28.5 million apiece over the past year. Vergara has topped the list the past 4 years and now Cuoco-Sweeting joins her after negotiating a $1 million-per-episode deal last year. Vergara’s “Modern Family” stepdaughter Julie Bowen comes in 3rd, while both Deschanel sisters, Zooey and Emily, make the Top 15, as do Pauley Perrette, Robin Wright, Ellen Pompeo and Mariska Hargitay.

★ 50 Cent has been hit with a lawsuit from author Larry Johnson, who accuses the rapper of copying his novel and turning the story into the TV series “Power”. Johnson claims he sent Fiddy’s work associate Nikki Turner a manuscript of his book “Tribulation Of a Ghetto Kid” while he was looking for a publisher. He alleges there are a number of similarities between the book and the TV drama about a drug dealer trying to become a legitimate businessman. The writer is demanding $200 million from the rapper, who produces the show and has a recurring role.

★ And Bruno Mars has been asked for an encore. The “Uptown Funk” singer performed at the 2014 Super Bowl and impressed so much that he’s been asked back for Super Bowl 50 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara CA next year. He’ll reportedly perform as well as curate a lineup of special guests. Bruno’s performance with Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2014 attracted over 115 million viewers, the most-watched halftime show ever until that record was beaten by Katy Perry this year.

• Justin Bieber – The 21-year-old’s new single “What Do You Mean?” has debuted at #1 on the ‘Billboard Hot 100’ chart, making him the youngest male artist to ever have a track debut at the top. It’s Bieber’s first #1; “Baby” peaked out at #2 in 2012.
• Norah Jones – She’s the mystery buyer of Brooklyn NY’s $6.25 million “Eat, Pray, Love” house, an old carriage house that featured in the film adaptation of the best-seller. Jones bought it in May under the guise of an LLC. It’s only now revealed that she’s the new owner.
• OMI – Another ranking of Song Of the Summer picks “Cheerleader”. According to the “Billboard” charts, the Jamaican’s infectious electro-ska ditty dominated this season. German producer Felix Jaehn re-mixed the 2012 reggae tune to make it a hit.
• Sam Smith – He’s received “GQ” magazine’s ‘Solo Artist Of the Year Award’. He was presented with the honor this week at a gala at the Royal Opera House in London, hosted by actor Samuel L Jackson.
• Thomas Rhett – He’s playing AT&T Stadium in Arlington TX, home of the Dallas Cowboys, on September 23rd in an event dubbed “Tangled Up in Texas”. It heralds the release of his new album “Tangled Up” (September 25th) and features an attempt at a world record for the largest game of Twister.
• The Who – They’ve postponed some dates of “The Who Hits 50!” tour to allow singer Roger Daltrey time to recover from an unspecified virus. Based on doctor’s orders, the first 4 gigs of the North American leg are being delayed, beginning with next Monday’s date in San Diego CA.

COMING ATTRACTIONS:
A BS selection of movies in the making …
• “Baby Driver” – Jamie Foxx is being tipped to star alongside Lily James in this story about a young driver who’s forced into working for a crime boss. Details about his exact role are being kept under wraps, but the 47-year-old actor-singer has reportedly been in negotiations with the film’s director, “Ant-Man” filmmaker Edgar Wright. Shooting is expected to begin later this year.
• ‘John Gotti Bio-Film’ – “Entourage” star Kevin Connolly has signed on to direct a stalled biopic about the infamous NYC mob boss starring John Travolta. Connolly is making his feature film directing debut after helming “Entourage” TV episodes and the hockey documentary “Big Shot”.
Travolta signed on for the film in 2011 and is still believed to be involved.
• “Mortal Kombat” – 38-year-old Australian filmmaker James Wan (“Furious 7”) is set to produce the new reboot based on the popular videogame series. It was first adapted to the silver screen in 1995, which spawned the 1997 sequel “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” and the 1998 TV series “Mortal Kombat: Conquest”.
• “A Street Cat Named Bob” – The heart-warming story of a cat named Bob and his owner James Bowen, which has already spawned a series of 6 best-selling books, is being turned into a major film. The original 2012 book sold more than a million copies in the UK alone and helped former busker Bowen turn his life around. Work on the film adaptation begins in October.
• ‘Untitled Christopher Nolan Movie’ – The acclaimed director’s next movie is coming July 21, 2017. It’s his first feature film since “Interstellar”, which opened last November and generated worldwide box office over $670 million. Warner Bros film studio has all rights to the new project but has given no further details.

AMAZON FOOD:
Continuing its seeming quest to dominate every aspect of consumer life, Amazon has turned itself into a food-delivery service, starting in Seattle WA this week. The online retailer is testing restaurant delivery in select areas of its hometown for members of its Prime Now service. It offers 1-hour delivery on orders for $7.99 or 2-hour delivery for free. The service, primarily available in downtown Seattle for now, leverages Prime Now’s existing delivery infrastructure to bring food orders from restaurants to customers. Using an app, customers are able to browse menus and place orders with dozens of participating local eateries. (What would you like to have delivered to your door that currently isn’t available?)

There have long been whispers of a cancer connection from cellphones and new research claims to back that up. A meta-study (basically a study of hundreds of other studies) by Dr Igor Yakymenko of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine reveals that radiofrequency from phones can damage DNA and cause a variety of health problems such as cancer, headaches, fatigue, even skin problems. For example, using a phone for 1 hour a day for 4 years ups the risk of some types of tumors by 3-to-5 times. So why aren’t we hearing about this? Cellphone-induced health problems can take up to 30 years to develop, Yakymenko says. To minimize your risk, try to use your cellphone less and go hands-free whenever possible. (If you wait long enough everything that’s good for you will be bad for you … and vice versa.)
