BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ As the internet continues to freak out over the news that Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott are expecting their first child together, some fans have come up with a juicy conspiracy theory: what if she’s actually Kim Kardashian’s surrogate? The surrogate remains anonymous, but she is reportedly three months pregnant with a baby girl for the Wests, who is due at the end of January 2018. (Sounds logical…)

★ Martin Scorsese is launching an online course in movie-making. The legendary director – whose movies include ‘Goodfellas,’ ‘Raging Bull,’ ‘Taxi Driver,’ ‘Casino,’ ‘Cape Fear,’ ‘The Aviator’ and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ – has joined forces with online-education startup MasterClass for the new class, which will begin in 2018. Students will pay $90 for unlimited access to over 20 video classes in which Scorsese will lecture on filmmaking and provide select feedback.
(Expect a lot of violent, profane, history-based gang movies in the coming years….)

★ In the world of celebrity baby stories, Nikki Reed and Ian Somerhalder’s might just fill you with a quick dose of rage. Or confusion. In a new interview on Dr. Berlin’s ‘Informed Pregnancy’ podcast, the couple opened up about their journey to pregnancy. According to Nikki, her feelings about kids at the time were mixed and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to be a mom. And then, according to her: Somerhalder “threw out all my birth control pills. That was it. That was also presumptuous.” Nikki gave birth to a baby girl, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder, on July 25.

★ Margot Robbie wants to see Harley Quinn and The Joker ”end in flames”. Robbie starred as the female villain in the DC Extended Universe ensemble movie ‘Suicide Squad’ alongside Jared Leto’s evil Joker, and the pair will reprise their roles for a spin-off film, but Margot doesn’t think there’ll be a happy ending for the pair. According to her, “’Their love story has to end in flames! It has to, it just wouldn’t be right.”

★ Warner Bros. Television says the safety of the cast and crew of its Vancouver-based ‘Riverdale’ set is of “paramount importance.” The studio spoke out in the wake of a car crash involving star K.J. Apa, who escaped injury in a collision that occurred as he drove home after a 14-hour day. The studio says that “K.J. has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him. Apa plays ‘Archie Andrews’ in the Riverdale series.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Bad Company – A new “secret” live CD and DVD set from their most recent tour has gone on sale exclusively at Walmart. ‘Bad Company Live at Red Rocks’ contains 14 songs from a May 15, 2016 stop on the band’s U.S. tour with Joe Walsh.
• Marilyn Manson – blames the 1999 Columbine High School shooting for destroying his “entire career”. Teenagers Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris killed 12 students and one teacher at the Colorado school, before turning the guns on themselves. Following the tragedy, reports emerged that the shooters were fans of Manson’s music.
• Nick Carter – warns that his brother Aaron will be sued if he tells lies about him. The pair have a notoriously fractured relationship and Nick recently hit back at Aaron with a legal letter after the younger sibling spoke out about their personal drama.
• Lady Gaga – says there was drama during the shoot for her ‘Edge of Glory’ video in her new Netflix documentary ‘Five Foot Two’. But director Joseph Kahn took to Twitter to hit back at her claims, writing: ”That story Gaga says about the Edge of Glory video shoot is complete bull____ lol. But have at it.”
• Foo Fighters – Some ticketholders were turned away from their O2 Arena Tuesday night because they did not have identification. The band has had a long-standing policy to require ID as a way of thwarting ticket scalpers.
• Frank Zappa – The proposed Zappa hologram tour has the backing of the Zappa Family Trust, but not Frank’s son, Dweezil. The guitarist said that he will not take part. Last year, Dweezil clashed with the Trust over his ‘Zappa Plays Zappa’ tour, claiming that his siblings threatened to fine him $150,000 each time he played a song without proper permission.
• Jason Isbell – Due to a death in his bassist Jimbo Hart’s family, he has postponed concerts scheduled through Wednesday (Sept. 27). The band announced the news on Friday, and plan to play make-up dates in 2018.
• Carrie Underwood – she and her ‘Something In the Water’ co-writers are being sued for copyright infringement. Canadian songwriters Ron McNeill and Georgia Lyons claim they pitched a song with the same title to Underwood’s producer, Mark Bright, before she released her song. They say they never heard back from Bright, Underwood or any of her representatives.
NETFLIX AND ILL:
Netflix and other streaming services have made it so easy to spend the evening…or the entire weekend doing nothing but ‘binge-watching’ your favorite TV shows or movies. But at what cost? Excessive hours of sitting to watch TV has been linked to an increased risk of dying from inflammatory diseases like Alzheimer’s and diabetes, according to an Australian study. The study of 8,900 adults found each additional hour of TV viewing was associated with a 12 percent increased risk of inflammatory-related death. Those who spent more than four hours a day watching TV were at greatest risk. Lead investigator at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Dr. Megan Grace, says while more research is needed, the findings build on growing evidence about the negative impact prolonged sitting has on health. She says that “People should be attempting to sit less and move more throughout their day because we do believe there are health benefits.” Inflammatory diseases cover a vast array of disorders and conditions including kidney disease, diabetes, asthma and Alzheimer’s disease. The researchers found a 54 percent higher risk of inflammatory-related death in those who watched between two and four hours of TV a day.
(Binge-watching does NOT encourage exercise. My step counter only had to count the steps to the bathroom over the weekend!)
(I guess the same appies if I’m binge-watching Sunday football? With chips and chicken wings?)
(On the plus side, my couch got a helluva workout!)

WHAT IF THEY HELD A BEAUTY CONTEST AND NO ONE CAME?
A Mexican modeling agency has had to cancel their male beauty contest because they weren’t able to find enough handsome men to compete. The ‘Mr. Model Tabasco 2017′ male beauty contest was supposed to bring together the most handsome men in the Mexican state of Tabasco, but the modeling agency behind the event was forced to announce its cancellation, after failing to find candidates that met their beauty requirements. In order to be accepted as a contestant, candidates needed to have a height of at least 1.78 m (5’11”), be between 17 and 27 years old, have a “harmonious face and body”, have a college degree or equivalent, speak English, have a valid passport, and not be a stripper. There were six contestants accepted before the event’s cancellation.
(…and not be a stripper? What if I’m not a stripper….anymore?)
(What about those poor six dudes? “Sorry…we just can’t accept that you might end up winning. The whole thing is cancelled!”)
(Not enough hot men for a ‘Tobasco’ beauty pageant. Who writes this stuff?)

HABITS TO HAVE IF YOU TRULY WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT:
1. Strength Train With Cardio: Make strength training your number one priority, followed by cardio. Add in yoga or Pilates and walking on your active rest days. (I generally save those days for catching my breath!)
2. Challenge Yourself at Every Workout: Try to increase the weight you lift almost every week, even just two pounds. The same rule applies for cardio, yoga, and Pilates. Challenge yourself a bit each time, whether it is increasing the mileage, holding side plank for longer, or perfecting your 100 series with straight legs. (My challenge rests in showing up)
3. Cut Out Sugar: Working out is only part of the equation. Diet is even more important. Say ‘no’ to sugar. Pay attention to nutrition labels and avoid anything with more than four grams of sugar.
4. Choose Protein and Fat Instead of Carbs: Reframe your meals so they consist of mostly protein and healthy fats. You could go with coffee and smoked salmon with avocado for breakfast rather than a bowl of cereal or oatmeal. For lunch, it’s veggie-chicken soup or salads loaded with diced chicken. For dinner maybe baked fish, steak, or chicken with a plate full of vegetables. (Sure. Tell that to my mother. She’d never cook me salmon for breakfast!)
5. Stop Drinking Alcohol: When training, even one drink can cause DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) to flare up and last for days. Cut way back and reserve drinking for special occasions. (I usually experience delayed soreness after drinking too!)
6. Schedule Carbs For Before and After Workouts: Eat brown rice, whole-wheat crackers, fruit, potatoes, and beans before or after a workout and limit carb intake the other times of the day. (Actually, save the beans for after. The rest of the gym will thank you!)
7. Cook Mostly at Home, but Plan For Meals Out: Keep the kitchen stocked with frozen meat, canned tuna, and vegetables galore. Use an Instant Pot to make big batches of brown rice, oatmeal, beans, and lentils on Sunday to last through the week. It’s OK to have one off day per week where you indulge in the bad stuff. Having a cheat day helps you stay on track and feel balanced. (I told my wife I needed a cheat day…and she threw the Instant Pot at me!)
(And that, boys and girls, is why losing weight is HARD!)
