BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
✶ Performances by superstar DJs Steve Aoki, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Armin van Buuren at the 2013 “Electric Zoo” festival were cancelled as NYC officials axed Sunday’s finalé following a pair of drug-related deaths. The Randall’s Island bash kicked off Friday with headlining sets by Avicii and “Harlem Shake” hitmaker Baauer. Then David Guetta, A-Trak, and Tiesto headlined Saturday. However, after the 3-day electronic music bash was marred by the passing of 2 party-goers during the first 48 hours, it was closed down early.

✶ Now you can visit “Downton Abbey”. The popular show’s setting, Highclere Castle, is now open to the public. It sits at the center of a 1,000-acre estate about 70 miles west of London. It’s been in the Earl of Carnavon’s family for centuries. Fans of the show will recognize just about every room on the tour. The decision to open up parts of the castle to the public was made to help generate income to keep the vast manor open, maintained, and heated. Tickets: £18.00 (about $28).

✶ Mark Wahlberg’s burger restaurant ‘Wahlburgers’ is set to expand into Canada next year. The “Ted” actor launched the burger joint in 2011 with his brothers Donnie & Paul in Hingham, Massachusetts and business is booming. The new location will open at Toronto’s SoHo Metropolitan Hotel and the brothers are also looking to add more locations in their hometown of Boston. Paul Wahlberg, who serves as executive chef, offers up a menu that includes the brothers’ childhood burger favorites.

✶ Acting couple Will & Jada Smith are selling their sprawling Calabasas, California compound for – whoa! – $42 million. The 150-acre estate is one of the most glamorous owned by any Hollywood couple. It features a 25,000 sq ft adobe-style main house, a man-made lake, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, and a hotel-size pool. It was the subject of an “Architectural Digest” cover story 2 years ago. Fear not, the Smiths will still have plenty of places to call home including an estate in Bryn Mawr PA, near Will’s native Philadelphia.

WED ON THE LONG WEEKEND:
✶ Actress Kate Bosworth (“Superman Returns”, “Blue Crush”) & her director-fiancé Michael Polish. They met on the set of the 2011 movie “Big Sur” and before they even dated he told her: “I’m going to marry you.” He was right. They wed at The Ranch at Rock Creek in Montana with an intimate gathering of about 50 friends & family in attendance.

✶ And “Saturday Night Live” regular Seth Meyers wed human rights lawyer Alexi Ashe on Sunday in a small ceremony in Martha’s Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts. Meyers revealed in July that he’d enlisted the help of his pet pooch for his proposal … by tying the engagement ring on his canine’s collar. Meyers is taking over from Jimmy Fallon as “Late Night” host next year.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Adele – She’s reportedly lining up illusionist David Blaine to perform magic tricks at her son Angelo’s 1st birthday party in October. Word has it she’s pulling out all the stops to make the occasion as special as possible.
• Carrie Underwood – Her hockey player-hubby Mike Fisher is recovering from a scrap with … a chipmunk. Seems Underwood begged him to rescue the critter after it sneaked into their home. But when he cornered it, it sank its sharp teeth into his hand. So, which one’s the Predator?
• John Legend – The 34-year-old says he’s less nervous about his upcoming wedding to 27-year-old “Sports illustrated” model Chrissy Teigen than the reaction to his new album, “Love In the Future”, out today. The twosome will wed near Lake Como in Italy, perhaps this weekend.
• Muse – Tonight  in Charlotte NC, they kick off another round of touring in support of the album “The 2nd Law”. The trek runs through September 19th in Salt Lake City UT. Cage the Elephant is the opening act.
• Nine Inch Nails – Today they release the 14-track album “Hesitation Marks”, their 1st release in 5 years. It features 4 different editions of cover art and is offered in 2 different mixes … ‘audiophile’ and ‘loud’. A ‘Deluxe Edition’ includes 3 bonus tracks.
• *NSYNC – Lance Bass has proposed to his 2-year boyfriend Michael Turchin, and Turchin has reportedly said ‘yes!’. The singer, who announced he was gay in 2006, began dating Turchin in December 2011. No details as yet on when and where the wedding will be.
• Passion Pit – A thunderstorm ruined their equipment at the North Coast Festival in Chicago on Friday. So the enterprising band performed a DJ set, then repeated it at weekend gigs in Calgary and Edmonton. They hope to have replacement gear in time for “Late Night With David Letterman” (CBS) tomorrow.

HOW TO TAKE A TASTEFUL SELFIE:
It’s official: We’re living in the age of shameless self-photography. ‘Selfies’ now make up 30% of all photos taken by those aged 18-to-24. Experts offer these tips on how to do it best …
• Look Straight At the Camera – There’s no such thing as a candid selfie.
• Step Outside – The lighting’s better and the background’s more interesting. Leave mirror shots where they belong … in the past on MySpace.
• Use Natural Light – Mid-morning or late afternoon sun is a photographer’s best friend. Trying to angle your desk lamp or use your camera’s flash will leave you looking jaundiced.
• Lower Your Arm – Relax your arm, and hold your smartphone about a foot away from your face. No need for your biceps to make a cameo in the shot.
• Try to Appear Natural – No one wants to relive their high school yearbook picture, so skip the tilted head and forced smile. You want to look relaxed and happy.
• Say No to Filters – Your pic is the first thing someone looks at on a social media site, whether dating or professional. An edited photo is easy to spot.

MOLAR MONEY MULTIPLIES:
Days of finding a quarter under your pillow are long gone; the ‘Tooth Fairy’ no longer leaves small change. The average tooth tucked under a pillow in 2013 is getting a whopping $3.70. That’s a 23% jump over last year and a 42% spike since 2011, according to a new VISA survey. Part of the reason for the sharp increase: Parents don’t want their kids to be the ones at the playground who received the lowest amount. Some parents are offering price reductions, ie: $5 for the 1st tooth to fall out, then $1 for subsequent losses. If all of this leaves you muddled, VISA is now offering a ‘Tooth Fairy Calculator’ app. (As if.)

BS REASONS TO PARTY . . .
• “National Flag Day” in Australia, honoring the national pennant picked in 1901. You’d think they could have designed something more substantially different from New Zealand’s flag.

• “Skyscraper Day”, a day to appreciate and admire the world’s tallest buildings. By definition, a skyscraper is any structure that clearly stands out above its surrounding environment. A loose agreement in North America & Europe puts the lower limit of a skyscraper at 150 meters (500 ft). A skyscraper taller than 300 meters (984 ft) is referred to as ‘supertall’.

• “Welsh Rarebit Day”, saluting the traditional dish that, explained simply, is melted cheese on bread. But anyone who’s had it knows it’s far more exotic than that, incorporating butter, flour, cheddar, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, and – optionally – beer.

• “Wilderness Day”, celebrating the unspoiled areas left to nature that are becoming fewer and farther between.

BS DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN & WOMEN:
● A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he wants.  A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn’t want.
● Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed. Women somehow deteriorate during the night.
● A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn’t. A man marries a woman expecting that she won’t change and she does.
● A woman has the last word in any argument. Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.
