We’re Bullish on Radio!

BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Jamie Foxx seems to be back to living the good life after his health scare. He was seen taking in the sights, sounds and some good food, while on a date with his girlfriend in Mexico. TMZ has pics of the Oscar-winning actor holding hands with Alyce Huckstepp late Sunday afternoon as they enter a restaurant at Nobu Los Cabos Hotel in Cabos San Lucas. Staff escorted the pair to a table for an early dinner on a patio outside where they enjoyed the stunning ocean views of the Baja Peninsula. Eyewitnesses reportedly said they seemed “very happy” and looked smitten with each other.

★ Bill Maher has announced that “Real Time With Bill Maher” will return tomorrow night. The comedian tweeted: “My writers and Real Time are back! See you Friday Night!” He previously announced plans to bring his show back “sans writers” on Sept. 13. He was joined by Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Hudson, and the team at “The Talk,” all of whom intended to bring their shows back into production during the WGA strike. On Sept. 18, Maher walked his announcement back. His latest tweet came on the heels of the announcement that WGA writers can return to work, after an agreement had been reached. ★ The Golden Globes has added 2 new categories that will recognize achievements in blockbuster movies and standup comedy. The winners of both categories will be announced at the 81st Golden Globe Awards, on January 7. Officially, the new categories will be titled ‘Cinematic and Box Office Achievement in Motion Pictures’ and ‘Best Stand-Up Comedian on Television’.

★ The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back, but the usual formula is long gone. For more than 20 years, viewers were treated to a who’s who of supermodels in over-the-top lingerie, strutting down a runway to pop music beats. That’s been replaced by a feature-length documentary called “The Tour ‘23,” which premiered this week on Prime. It comes after a 5-year hiatus for the fashion show, due to plummeting viewership and a number of controversies. What can you expect from “The Tour”? It spotlights 4 collections from independent designer-artists, hosted by Gigi Hadid from a Barcelona villa.

★ David Letterman isn’t an actor, but that didn’t stop him from auditioning for the 1980 comedy classic “Airplane!”, a new book says. In “Surely You Can’t Be Serious: The True History of Airplane!” by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker, the comedy trio quote Letterman’s story of his truly terrible screen test for the role of ‘Ted Striker’, in which he said: “I get out there, and they had set up a cockpit for the aircraft…We did the scene once, and then they came in and gave me some notes, and then we did it maybe 2 more times. And I kept saying all along, ‘I can’t act, I can’t act, I can’t act,’ and then one of them came to me after the audition and said, ‘You’re right: you can’t act!'”

★ Three months after offering a stay at Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, Airbnb’s latest stunt is a long weekend at Shrek’s Swamp. The listing for the property based on the 2001 hit movie reads: “Ogre enthusiasts can find peace and quiet watching the leaves fall in this mud-laden, moss-covered, murky-watered oasis that is Shrek’s Swamp”. The property in the Scottish Highlands is a faithful recreation of Shrek’s animated abode, complete with oversized furniture and roots growing down through the ceiling. Guests will be able to light “earwax candles,” and will be treated to Donkey’s freshly made waffles for breakfast. And just like in the film, the bathroom is an outhouse, which features a toilet, sink and shower facilities. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yeyvskb8

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Usher –In an interview he recalled the moment JayZ called him, just before making the Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement: “He’s like ‘Yo, this is your Micheal moment. This is your magic moment.’ I’m like, ‘You serious?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah.'”
• Ed Sheeran — is in the clear regarding claims he borrowed parts of the Marvin Gaye ‘Let’s Get It On’ for his own 2014 hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’. The heirs of songwriter Ed Townsend, who co-wrote Gaye’s classic song, have dropped their appeal of a ruling earlier this year, which cleared him infringement claims.
• Shakira — is facing another major tax evasion issue with Spanish authorities. Monday, prosecutors alleged she failed to pay about $7million in taxes on her 2018 income. She is already expected to stand trial in this year in another tax fraud case over $14.3million in back taxes between 2012-14.
• Rolling Stones – are teasing another new song, ‘Sweet Sounds of Heaven’, featuring Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga. The complete song will be released today. It will appear on the Stones’ upcoming album “Hackney Diamonds” out Oct. 20. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yc5yyuup
• Eric Clapton – has been announced as a performer at the upcoming tribute concert for late Procol Harum’s singer/pianist Gary Brooker. Also appearing at the star-studded charity show will be Queen’s Roger Taylor, Genesis’ Mike Rutherford, and more. “Remembering Gary Brooker” will be held at the G Live arts center in Guildford, England on Dec. 4.
• Ozzy Osbourne – wants to release another new album next year. The 74-year-old Prince of Darkness, who has dropped 2 albums in the last 4 years, told Metal Hammer: “I’m getting myself fit…I want to do one more album and then go back on the road.”
• Carrie Underwood — will perform Nov. 17 at Hamilton, Ontario’s FirstOntario Centre, as part of the CFL’s Grey Cup Music Festival. Tickets go on sale this Saturday. The Grey Cup game will be held at Tim Hortons Field on Nov. 19.
• Luke Combs – His cover of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ has finally topped the Hot Country Songs chart after 18 weeks (!) at #2. The song is also at #1 on the all-format Radio Songs chart for a 4th week.
• Ashley McBride – has revealed that she has been sober for more than a year. In an interview, she said: “I didn’t check the counter…but it’s four hundred and fifty something days.” She chose not to speak about the change until a year had passed because she didn’t want to “screw it up” and go back to her old habits. She’s currently touring to promote her “Devil I Know” album.

SHOOTING THE BULL

SHOES NEWS:
⇒ Adidas’ newest running shoes, worn by Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa on Sunday to set a new women’s marathon record, went on sale this week with an eyelet-watering price tag. It seems that Adidas, its rival Nike, and other sports brands have been locked in a “supershoe” war since the first running shoes containing a thick, shock-absorbing foam and carbon fibre plate to help athletes run more efficiently, were released years ago. And at $500 a pair, the Adizero Adios Pro Evo 1 cost $225 more than Nike’s equivalent Alphafly 2, raising the question of how many amateur runners will be willing to go the distance…on the price. (They will. Want to know why? Because then they’ll be able to tell everyone about their $500 shoes, of course!)
⇒ Now, just forget about the $500 sneakers. Here’s what you REALLY want: Paris Fashion Week is on, and one of the buzziest items hitting the runway is Italian designer Marni’s “big foot 2.0”—a tennis shoe so bloated, it looks like it comes with its own air compressor. Big foot 2.0 is part of the “clowncore” fashion movement that’s grown in popularity recently, like the big red boots that were spotted on Doja Cat and Lil Nas X. A lot of looks in the Paris haute couture fashion shows earlier this year also referenced clowns and harlequins. (Well, Halloween IS on its way…) LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3kdpjkd2

COFFEE VS. TEA:
Your morning cuppa might be the highlight of your day – but which is healthier for you – coffee or tea? Both are rich sources of antioxidants, which are compounds that protect our cells from damage caused by free radicals. But Dan Gallagher, a registered dietitian with Aegle Nutrition in Texas, said that like most foods, coffee, and tea can be made unhealthy depending on what is added to them. But those factors aside, here’s a quick breakdown of some of the benefits of each:
COFFEE:
• It helps boost mental alertness.
• It can enhance physical performance.
• It potentially reduces the risk of some diseases, including cancer.
• It can make you go. (I’ll leave it at that!)
TEA:
• It helps boost mental alertness.
• Some herbal teas are good for digestive health.
• It potentially reduces the risk of some diseases, including cancer and heart disease.
So, which is healthier? Alas, like many nutritional debates, there is no “definite” answer. But to fully take advantage of the health benefits of either, consider eliminating or reducing added sugars and syrups, as well as excessive cream or milk, particularly high-fat versions. And choose high-quality coffee beans or tea leaves.
(I guess the best thing to do is to order a black coffee with a black tea chaser – to go!)
(How is it that I knew there wouldn’t be a surprise nomination for the health benefits of the “Pumpkin Spice Latte” in this story…)

CRINGE CULTURE:
If you’re having trouble finding that special someone, try embracing your inner nerd. That’s advice from a survey of 2,000 Gen Z and millennial singles. One-third said people should embrace their “cringey” habits, rather than avoid them. Not only that, 63% agreed that embracing your “cringe” could even help you find “the one.” Now, remember: What’s cringey to one person, might seem pretty cool to another. So, it’s all subjective – but nearly half (47%) of today’s singles consider themselves more cringe than cool. Two in 3 said they find it attractive when dates are their authentic selves. And 74% find it attractive when a date shares things they ‘nerd out’ about – like personal passions or a specific, niche hobby.
(Unless that hobby is Cosplay. Then, you’re best keeping quiet about it!)
(Their advice is to “embrace your inner nerd”? Good idea – then, at least you’ll have SOMEONE to hug!)

DID YOU KNOW?
The Blockbuster “Barbie” movie has inspired a cultural phenomenon, contributing to a pink paint shortage and inspiring a fabulously feminine fashion trend, dubbed “Barbiecore.” But it has also sparked conversations around mental health and the power of nostalgia. Since the film’s release, Barbie doll sales have spiked — which could be thanks to adult viewers on a search for their “emotional support Barbies,” CNN has reported. Recently, many adults have shared on social media their newly purchased dolls. The hashtag #emotionalsupportbarbie has more than 2 million views on TikTok, featuring videos of girls and women — and even men — buying Barbies that look like them, represent their careers, or inspire them to be their authentic selves. (Because when it comes to an ‘authentic’ representation of anything, the first thing we all think of is Barbie…right??)
