BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ If you haven’t been able to score Taylor Swift tickets, don’t worry — she’s got you. The concert film “Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour,” will hit movie theaters this fall, with opening day set for Friday the (of course) 13th of October. AMC Theatres is promising that the film will play at every one of its US locations at least 4 times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through its initial engagement, with many of the chain’s Imax and Dolby Cinema locations locked in to ensure the singer remains larger than life on its premium screens. Tickets are now on sale for, as you might imagine, because it’s Taylor’s world, $19.89 for adults (plus tax), and $13.13 for children and seniors, on standard screens.

★ Jimmy Kimmel claims he was ready to retire as late-night talk show host earlier this year — but the WGA writers strike changed his perspective. He made the revelation on the first episode of Spotify’s “Strike Force Five” podcast, which went live Wednesday, featuring a roundtable Zoom discussion among Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers and John Oliver. He said he was “very intent on retiring” when the strike started, but “now, I realize, oh yeah, it’s kind of nice to work.” Meyers response: “C’mon, you are the Tom Brady of late night… you have feigned retirement.” But Kimmel insisted that he was “very, very serious” about packing it in.

★ It’s true that “Jeopardy!” passed on LeVar Burton, but his TV days are far from over. He’s about to become host of “Trivial Pursuit”! TMZ reports that Burton and his team are close to locking in terms for him to become executive producer and host of the new Trivial Pursuit game show, which will be aired on the CW. A source says things are almost finalized on the deal, and that the series already has a 12-episode order. Hasbro honchos apparently started considering Burton for the job after he was snubbed by Sony for the highly-coveted Jeopardy! hosting job.

★ With one week to go until the Toronto International Film Festival 2023 kicks off, the A-listers who are and aren’t attending have been revealed. Amid ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, some stars are able to attend and promote their films, thanks to interim agreements. Among those expected to hit TIFF are Sean Penn and Dakota Johnson for “Daddio”, Finn Wolfhard and some of his “Hell Of A Summer” co-stars, Viggo Mortensen for “The Dead Don’t Hurt” and Maya Hawke and Laura Linney for “Wildcat”. A-listers who won’t be showing up at this year’s festival even though they have films there include: Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Olivia Colman, Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, Anna Kendrick, Glen Powell, and Chris Pine.

★ Batman is coming back to theatres much sooner than anyone thought. Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy will be returning to Showcase Cinemas next month. In honor of Batman Day on Sept. 16, the theater chain will host a screening of all 3 films: “Batman Begins”, “The Dark Knight”, and “The Dark Knight Rises.”

★ Nick Cannon’s brother Gabriel admits he’d be hard-pressed to name all 12 of his famous brother’s kids. The “Claim to Fame” Season 2 winner told EW: “I haven’t met them [all yet], but did y’all see what happened with him? SCIENTISTS SAY (Weekend indulgence edition…):
❑ Some scientists are calling on Gen Zers to drink more beer – and lay off the trendy TikTok foods. Researchers at China’s Dalian Medical University wrote that cracking open a cold one can have “even greater effects” on gut health than fashionable probiotics — like the ones being touted in videos – such as yogurt, kombucha, sauerkraut, pickles, miso, tempeh, kimchi, kefir, sourdough bread and certain cheeses. Beer is rich in an antioxidant-boosting compound known as polyphenols that, when paired with the brew’s fiber contents, “show the potential to enhance the development of a healthy gut [micro-organism] through probiotic mechanisms,” the researchers wrote. (Great. And I thought it was bad when my kids were eating all the pickles in the house…)
❑ Well, so much for that. Apparently, beer goggles aren’t a thing. The phenomenon — when someone appears much more attractive to a person who’s had a few drinks – has been debunked. Stanford University researchers enlisted 36 people to test the alcohol-induced mirage, but found that participants did not waver from how attractive they found other people after drinking. They did find, however, that booze appeared to give drinkers some extra confidence, making them more likely to interact with people they found attractive, while under the influence. (And thus enabling those people to see first-hand how UN-attractive people are when THEY have had a few, amiright?)

Do you ever feel bored at work? If you’re average, you do – for most of the workweek, according to new research. A survey of 2,000 employed US adults found that 46% are bored at work for at least 3 days per week. Among those who manage to stay engaged longer, many set professional goals to stay motivated. Like what? Well, making more money is always good – 54% said they aim to do that. Other top motivational goals included: striving to move up within the company (53%) and aiming to help create something new (50%). The survey also found that feelings of dissatisfaction typically come within 2 years of working the same role (46%).

(Pro tip: Never tell your boss that you feel “bored” at work. He’ll either find something for you to do – or find nothing for you to do — ever!)

NEWS OF THE WEIRD:
➢ A Swiss man wound up in the hospital after putting his head into a giant water fountain on Lake Geneva. The 20-something man somehow breached the security perimeter around Geneva’s famous Jet d’Eau water fountain and put his head into the nozzle of what is essentially an extremely powerful water cannon. It pumps out 500 liters of water per second, at a speed of 200 kph, to a height of 140 meters (460 feet) in the air. When the water sprouted, the daredevil was catapulted backward by the force. But that was only his first attempt. When he tried again, the powerful jet of water sent the man flying several meters into the air, and crashing onto the cement platform around the Jet D’Eau. Police eventually fished him from Lake Geneva, and rushed him to hospital. (…where he is said to be absolutely petrified of the IV…)
(***Caution – preview punchline***) ➢ A scientist wore a giant bird mask on his head for an entire year in order to befriend some birds – but it didn’t go quite as planned. Toshitaka Suzuki, an associate professor at the University of Tokyo, shared a bizarre photo of a man wearing a giant bird head. Taken in the forests of Nagano Prefecture, it shows a fellow scientist who wore the ‘disguise’ in order to get close to a nest of great tits without triggering their distress calls. The bird species can remember human faces and would stop their usual chirping to put out warning calls whenever they saw them approaching. Having wound up on the blacklist, the scientist disguised himself as a giant bird in order to study their chirping ‘language’. According to Prof. Suzuki, his colleague wore the disguise for an entire year, but his experiment ended in failure. A Turkish airline is looking to find out if some travelers will pay extra to avoid sitting near babies and small children. Corendon Airlines will sell an adults-only zone — no one under 16 allowed — on flights between Amsterdam and Curacao starting in November. It says people traveling without children will get quiet surroundings, and parents won’t have to worry that their crying or fidgeting kids will annoy fellow passengers. How much to enjoy one of the 93 seats in the ‘no-kids zone’? An extra 45 euros, or $49 US dollars. (I’d much rather be able to pay extra for a seat in the ‘no reclining seat in front of me’ zone!)
