BS SHOW BIZ BUZZ:
★ Tom Hardy, the star of “Venom”, “The Dark Knight Rises”, and “Mad Max: Fury Road”, has proven his combat skills are not screen-made, with an impressive victory in a real-life martial arts competition. On Saturday, he entered the UMAC Milton Jeynes Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open in the UK. Not only did Hardy compete, but he won first place in his division, putting him at a high-level Blue Belt, which is the 2nd ranking color out of five, with Black Belt being the highest. One of his opponents admitted to feeling a little star-struck when he saw who he would be fighting, but said Hardy told him, “Forget it’s me and do what you would normally do.”

★ Meghan Markle requested a one-on-one meeting with King Charles III to “clear the air” before she and Prince Harry leave the UK, according to a royal reporter. In a YouTube video, Neil Sean claims his source told him that the Duchess of Sussex made the request in a “formal letter,” and that the meeting would serve as “an opportunity to clear the air, put the rights from wrongs and explain some of the rationale behind what they’ve been doing over the last two years.” Sean admitted that he had “no idea” if the meeting was going to go forward, but added, “Now you have to admire Meghan’s self-belief, whatever you think.”

★ Megan Thee Stallion will pull double duty as both host and musical guest next month as “Saturday Night Live” returns. But first, as “SNL” Season 48 launches on Oct. 1, Miles Teller will make his debut as host, with musical guest Kendrick Lamar. The following week, on Oct. 8, comes Brandon Gleeson, who will also host for the first time. Gleeson won an Emmy in 2009 for playing Winston Churchill in HBO’s “Into the Storm”. Willow will join as musical guest. The next week, Oct. 15, will feature Megan Thee Stallion pulling double-duty, and will be the final new episode of SNL in October.

★ It might not something that you were holding your breath for, but Roseanne Barr is coming back. The Fox Nation streaming service has announced that she’s making a return to the comedy stage with a brand-new special set to air next year. “A Roseanne Comedy Special” will mark her first stand-up special since “Roseanne Barr: Blonde N Bitchin’” aired on HBO in 2006. The streamer said the one-hour special “will feature Ms. Barr’s signature comedic take on a variety of topics, with no subject off limits.” Barr was fired from the reboot of her classic ’90s sitcom “Roseanne” in 2018 after tweeting a racist comment.

BS MUSIC NOTES:
• Maroon 5 — Adam Levine is denying about rumors he cheated on wife Behati Prinsloo. He says he did not have a year-long affair with Insta model Sumner Stroh, but admitted he “crossed the line” with flirty messages. Levine’s statement comes a week after Prinsloo confirmed the couple is expecting their 3rd child.
• Bad Bunny – His “Un Verano Sin Ti” has clinched another non-consecutive week at #1 on the Billboard Albums chart, its 11th time at the top spot since its release 19 weeks ago. Not since Drake’s “Views” logged 13 non-consecutive weeks at #1 in 2016 had a similar feat been achieved.
• Journey – former singer Steve Perry is suing to cancel trademark registrations for 20 Journey songs filed by former bandmates Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon. It involves some of the group’s biggest hits, including ‘Separate Ways’, ‘Open Arms’, ‘Anyway You Want It’ and others. Perry’s petition says they filed to register the songs for use on hats, T-shirts and other paraphernalia, violating a previous agreement.
• (***Caution-language***) Nickelback – Chad Kroeger says people have been mispronouncing his last name for so long he’s not bothered by it, but confirmed it should be said like the horror villain ‘Freddy Krueger’. Quote: “It’s [Kroo-ger], don’t trust the internet.” Why doesn’t he correct people? “If I just stop and go, ‘Actually, it’s Kroo-ger,’ I’m gonna look like such a d***. So, I’m just like whatever, I don’t care.”
• Guns N’ Roses — will release a mammoth “Use Your Illusion” box set on Nov. 11. The twin albums’ original 30 songs will be augmented with 2 complete concerts from 1991 and ’92. It’ll come in “Super Deluxe 7-CD + Blu-Ray” and “Super Deluxe Twelve-LP + Blu-Ray” volumes, plus 2-CD deluxe editions of each Illusion album, each containing a bonus disc of live footage.
• BRELAND — has announced his first ever headlining tour. The “Here For It Tour” kicks off in Oxford OH on Nov. 16, and continues through Dec. with more dates to be announced soon.
• Shania Twain – will release her new single ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ tomorrow, and says there is more new music in the works. She captioned her Instagram post: “Every time I get to announce something like this I get such a rush of adrenaline and nerves – it never gets old…” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/37bz5am8
• Travis Denning, Tracey Lawrence and Gary Allan — will perform at Lawrence’s 17th annual Mission: Possible Turkey Fry and Benefit Concert on November 22 in Nashville to provide meals to people who are homeless.
SHOOTING THE BULL
GM PICK-UP:
General Motors is going from electric cars to electric carts. The automaker is launching a battery-powered cart designed for grocery pick-up services. It is being marketed under GM’s new BrightDrop brand, which sells its electric commercial vans and other tech. The BrightDrop Trace Grocery features 9 temperature-controlled drawers, and is weatherproofed for use in all seasons. It can handle loads up to 350 pounds (160kg) and reach speeds of 3 mph (5kph). The idea is that Trace Grocery allows employees to place a customer’s order directly into specific compartments of the unit before it is parked curbside for pick-up. The customer then pulls up to the eCart, and gains access to their groceries using a verification code through the store’s app. Grocery retailer Kroger has been testing the Trace, which is expanding to other retailers, and will be widely available in 2024.
(Hey, anything to avoid the self-checkout!)
(Why on earth do they need NINE different temperature zones? I certainly don’t have 9 different temp zones once I get them home!)

THE EARLY-BIRD GETS…HEALTHIER:
⇒ Early risers who remain active throughout the day tend to be more content and sharper mentally, especially in older age, according to scientists at the University of Pittsburgh. In a study, they found that seniors who get up early and stay busy all day long are both happier and perform better on cognitive tests in comparison to those with more irregular daily activity patterns. The researchers say their findings suggest that having a regular activity plan (or active routine) could help contribute to happiness and mental acuity. That plan could include scheduling time to meet a friend or neighbor, enjoying sunshine, exercise and eating on a regular schedule, and caring for a pet. (It’s not the getting up early that’s tough, it’s the ‘staying active’ part, when all you’re capable of by 2pm is sitting in your chair with drool rolling down your chin!)
⇒ If you’re a “night-owl”, you may be at higher risk for type 2 diabetes and heart disease, a new study found. Night owls were more sedentary, had lower aerobic fitness levels and burned less fat at rest and while active than “early birds” in the study by researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Night-owls were also more likely to be insulin-resistant. Early birds also tend to perform better in school, and are more active throughout the day, which may partly explain why the study found they have less risk of cardiovascular disease. (In this job, I get up so early, I have to wear yesterday’s clothes!)

EVERYTHING NICE ABOUT PUMPKIN SPICE:
With fall officially arriving today, for some, it’s the most wonderful time of the year: Pumpkin Spice season. And if you’re one of those people who want pumpkin spice in everything from your Oreos to your…pumpkin spice…here is some good news: The spices that are mixed together to create pumpkin spice each have their own health benefits. That’s right: Pumpkin spice is actually pretty good for you. The flavor is generally made up of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Cinnamon is thought to help control blood sugar levels, nutmeg has been used to treat many afflictions including cancer and kidney disease, but more research is needed. Ginger seems to be an effective treatment for nausea and morning sickness. Cloves are used to treat toothaches, and allspice is good for things like intestinal gas, diarrhea, flu and colds. And let’s not forget pumpkin. While it isn’t actually an ingredient in ALL pumpkin spice products, if it is used, you’re in luck. Pumpkin is high in vitamin A, which is good for your eyes, skin, and fighting infections.
(Wait! What about whipped cream? Tell me something good about whipped cream!)
(Now there’s a dietary supplement that I can get into!)
(I used to love that stuff until that unfortunate overdose incident a few years ago…)

LIFE HACKS FROM PEOPLE WITH QUESTIONABLE MORALS:
We don’t recommend you try any of these shady ways of saving a few bucks. They’re nice to think about, though…
✗Instead of paying by the hour for parking, drop by an auto shop, ask them to rotate your tires, and say you’ll swing by in a few hours. (Just don’t let them talk you into refilling your blinker fluid, again…)
✗ If you’re hungry between 6-8am, you can pop into a busy hotel and get a free breakfast. (Or outright embarrassed, if you get caught!)
✗ If you break an appliance, and you’re broke, buy an identical one (credit card, of course), swap them out, and return the broken one for a refund. (With 10 years of food scum on it, probably!)
✗ If using a self-checkout station, weigh all your fruit as apples. (Maybe that PS4 in your cart is an apple, too!)
✗At university, if you can plug your laptop into a printer, you can print for free!
✗ You can get a free carry-on bag by asking at the airport gift shop for a gift bag.
✗ If you go to a country concert and wear something to suggest you were in the military, you won’t have to pay for a drink all night. (Well, THAT’S a new low…)
✗ (An oldie) Lying about your kids’ age at an amusement park or buffet can get you a cheaper price. (Until your kids bust you in front of everyone…)
(Let’s just call these what they are: Scams!)

DID YOU KNOW?
Because scientists do this type of thing, they’ve come up with a new estimate for the number of ants on Earth. And it comes to…a whopping total of nearly 20 quadrillion. That staggering sum — 20 followed by 15 zeros, or 20,000 trillion — may provide some relief to entomologists concerned a possible mass die off of insects could upend ecosystems. Scientists from the University of Hong Kong concluded that if all the ants were plucked from the ground and put on a scale, they would outweigh all the wild birds and mammals put together. Oh, and for every person, there are about 2.5 million ants. (More, if you’re a kid with a popsicle!)
