• Miley Cyrus – sang some classic rock covers during her first post-divorce concert Saturday at Las Vegas’ iHeartRadio Music Festival. The show also featured the debut performance of her, Ariana Grande and Lana Del Rey’s ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ collaboration.
• Kanye West – usually holds his “Sunday Service” gatherings in California, but with his recent purchase of a $14 million ranch in Wyoming, he and an 80-person choral group performed in his new home of Cody. • Stevie Wonder – will be among the artists featured on “Motown Unreleased: 1969”, a digital-only collection featuring 60 previously unreleased studio recordings made during 1969. COLD CURE:
From the “I’ll believe it when I see it” department: Scientists say they may have found a cure for the common cold. The cold virus is a tricky thing, because there isn’t just one virus that’s behind the infection. Many different respiratory viruses can bring on the common cold, but most are caused by rhinovirus infections. There are approximately 160 known types of rhinovirus, which explains why getting a cold doesn’t make you immune to picking up another one a month later. But researchers at Stanford and the University of California say they may have found a way to stop many of these viruses in their tracks. They say they have found a certain protein which allows the viruses to replicate, and have been able to disable this protein, thus preventing infection. But they caution that their research is still in the experimental stage, and a drug still needs to be developed for it to be put into widespread use.
(Until then…the common cold will continue to be in widespread use!)
(Oh, well…back to my hot toddies!)
(If there is no cure for the cold…then what exactly does all that stuff in aisles 7 and 8 at the drug store do?)

IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE:
Have you ever noticed that when children are trying to remember something, they squeeze their eyes closed? It turns out they may be on to something. Scientists say that if you hit a mental block, or that mid-afternoon lull where you don’t feel very sharp, one effective way to instantly boost your brainpower is to close your eyes. One study had people watch a video of a simulated crime. Later, they were asked to recall details of the video with either their eyes closed or eyes open. The results showed that those who closed their eyes during recall remembered 44 percent more correct details than those who kept their eyes open. Another study showed that our creativity and ingenuity also get a boost when we close our eyes. How does this work? Researchers believe it is because the brain only has a limited amount of attention and energy. And one of the tasks that sucks up a lot of this energy is sight…up to 30%. So, in theory, when you close your eyes, you free up energy associated with that 30 percent and divert it toward the task at hand. It’s sort of like when you have a bunch of programs running in the background of your computer, and everything gets a bit sluggish, until you close a few of them, and things start to run smoothly again.
(And if that doesn’t work, go back to bed for a full reboot!)
(So if you are working on an important project at work, you should take the time to close your eyes for a while. But not so long that you start snoring…)
(Why is it I get the feeling that (***Co-host***) has probably NEVER closed his eyes…)

ROCKIN’ DOWN THE HIGHWAY:
A new study has concluded that Bruce Springsteen and Miley Cyrus can contribute to dangerous driving.
Participants were placed in a driving simulator for 20 minutes. They were then exposed to various types of music, or none at all. The results suggested that, when listening to music faster than 120 beats per minute, drivers changed lanes twice as often and increased their speed to 5 mph above the limit. Lead researcher Qiang Zeng of South China University says that “Perceived mental workload…deviation of speed and frequency of lane crossing were higher when driving under the influence of rock music than that when driving under the influence of light music or an absence of music.” He feels that his findings could be useful for the development of effective driver education strategies, including one that could enhance public awareness of the negative impact of music listening on driving performance.
Top 5 Most Dangerous Driving Songs:
1. ‘American Idiot’ – Green Day
2. ‘Party in the U.S.A.’ – Miley Cyrus
3. ‘Mr. Brightside’ – The Killers
4. ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ – The Chainsmokers
5. ‘Born to Run’ – Bruce Springsteen
Top 5 Least Dangerous Driving Songs:
1. ‘Stairway to Heaven’ – Led Zeppelin
2. ‘Under the Bridge’ – Red Hot Chili Peppers
3. ‘God’s Plan’ – Drake
4. ‘Africa’ – Toto
5. ‘Location’ – Khalid
(OK, but I see just as many ‘rock’ songs in the “least dangerous” list as I do in the “most dangerous” list!)
